TEETAERT: Gerard (Gerry) Teetaert passed away on March 13, 2012 at Bayside Personal Care Home with family by his side. Gerry was born April 14, 1927 on a farm north of Medora, the second child of Henri and Bertha Teetaert. The family eventually moved to a farm south-west of Deloraine and Gerry resided in that area until moving to Minitonas for a brief time in 1961 and then finally to a farm north of Margaret in 1962. Gerry married Mary Decorte in 1951 and they had 2 children, Marjory and Jim. Gerry and Mary divorced, and Gerry married Lorna (Rea) Sage. Lorna had 2 daughters from her first marriage, Deb and Kelly. Gerry and Lorna had 3 sons together: Rick, Terry and Jeff. In 1986, Gerry and Lorna bought a house in Ninette and Gerry commuted to the farm for a few years. In 1991, they sold the farm to good friend and neighbour, Gordon Taylor. Gerry continued to work seasonally for Agricore for a few years after moving to town. Unfortunately, Lorna passed away in 1996 following a battle with cancer. In 1998, through skillful matchmaking of a mutual friend, Gerry met Leona Shackel. Leonas husband, Bud, had also passed away in 1996. Gerry and Leona were married in 2000. In February 2010, Gerry moved to Bayside Personal Care Home due to declining health. Gerry loved farming and worked hard to help his Dad and later to support his family. He had a mixed farm, always had cattle, and at times also raised horses, pigs, goats and chickens on the farm. In his spare time he enjoyed playing and watching baseball in the summer and curling in the winter. He always enjoyed a game of pool and in his later years took up golfing. Gerry was very competitive in sports, even when playing cards and, more than once, would let others know if they werent playing the way he thought they should. The Minto sports day ball tournaments, when Gerry, and all of his children, their spouses and children played ball, was a highlight for Gerry and all of the family. Gerry was proud to have served as a councilor for the R.M. of Riverside from 1983-1989. Gerry and Lorna made many winter trips south to Nevada and California with some of their good friends from the Margaret/Dunrea area. After Lorna passed away and Gerry remarried, he and Leona also travelled, once to the west coast and south to Las Vegas, Branson and Nashville and once to the state of New York and Niagara Falls. Most of all, Gerry loved to be around people, especially his family, playing cards or just visiting and having a good time. Left to mourn Gerrys passing are his wife, Leona; children, Marjory (Duane) Neufeld, Alysa (Kyle) Mathies and Avaya; Brayden (Nickie) Neufeld; Jim (Corinne), Jamie and Amie; Deb (Dale) Merritt, Amanda, Cam (Chelsea) and Jen; Kelly Sage, Scott, Kain and Sharra; Rick; Terry, Codey, Taylor and Logan; Jeff (Corinna), Michaela and Kirsten; daughters-in-law: Sharon Teetaert and Shirley Teetaert. Leonas children: Marie (Phil) Jensen, Ian and Kristen; Brenda (Richard) Shaw and Dale; Barb (Keith) Hardman and Amanda; Michael (Vicky) Shackel, Tim and Megan, John (Laura Det) McInnes. Gerry is also mourned by sister Josie (Oscar) Denys; 3 sisters-in-law: Evelyn (Bob) Ryan, Gail Wood, Judy (Bob) Astle; 4 brothers-in-law: Barry (Barb) Rea; Ron (Sandy) Rea, Don McInnes and Vic Kamarous. Gerry is predeceased by his mother and father; his wife Lorna; sister and brother-in-law Georgette and Kenneth Bolduc; sisters-in-law Doreen Kamarous and Vivian McInnes; brother-in-law Dave Wood; and his mothers-in-law and fathers-in-law. Donations in memory of Gerry may be made to the Alzheimers Society, Unit 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2. Killarney and Boissevain Funeral Homes entrusted with arrangements.
