TAGGART: Aldwyn Robert Taggart, known as Al, of Brandon, Manitoba lost his courageous battle with cancer at the age of 69 years old on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Al was born in Londonderry, Northern Ireland on November 9, 1942 to Benjamin Taggart and Rebecca Culbertson. He grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland where he completed his first trade of Tool & Die Maker. As a young man in Ireland, he became a proficient marksman winning many trophies. Riding motorcycles was another passion and he was very proud of the fact that he built his own car. He immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1968 and became a proud Canadian citizen in 2006. Aldwyn moved from Toronto to Thompson, Manitoba in 1968, where he enjoyed working for Inco and the lifestyle the North offered. During that time, he completed his Interprovincial Industrial Mechanic and Millwright Trades. He married Sylvia Taggart, nee (Verley) in 1975 and they had two children Corinne and Marc. He moved his family to Brandon, Manitoba in 1986 and he followed in 1987 to start work at Burns Meats. In 1990, he began a new job with Ayerst Organics, where he enjoyed his work until he retired in 2002. He continued to work occasionally with the Millwright Union Local 1443 and maintained his membership until his death. Als specialty was precision work and his ability to measure to .001 of an inch. He created lasting friendships at work and his personal life because of his sense of humor, Irish wit and practical jokes. Aldwyn enjoyed many activities, such as drawing with oil pastels, travelling, camping, boating, fishing, golfing, cycling, playing cards, and darts. He was an avid watcher of the military, history and sports television channels. He was happy to share his current and diverse automotive knowledge. For many years he was very involved in his childrens sports activities and coached his sons soccer teams. Al is survived by his wife Sylvia, his daughter Corinne (Jarrid) St-Pierre and his son Marc (Lesley Towler). Aldwyn was very proud and took great care of hisfour grandchildren; Maxime, Félix, Chloé and newly arrived Huxley. He is also survived by his sister Pauline Acheson (Roderick) and nieces; Carolineof Northern Ireland and Louise (Athol Haas) and great nephew Logan in Scotland. Aldwyn had a special and close relationship with his wifes family, la belle famille. Aldwyn was predeceased by his mother Rebecca Culbertson (June 2011), his father Benjamin Taggart (October 1997), his aunt May Taggart and his uncle Robert Taggart all of Northern Ireland. The ceremony to celebrate Als life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 1:30 pm. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery, Brandon Manitoba.
