SAMBROOK: With great sadness we announce the passing of Howard E. Sambrook, peacefully, with family at his side, on March 30th at BRHC. Howard was born on Dec. 29, 1928 in Milestone, Saskatchewan and was raised, along with two brothers and two sisters, on the family farm, by his father, Tom, and mother, Margaret. Howard married Doreen Atkinson of Medora in 1953, and after farming at Milestone for three years, they moved to Medora where they raised their only daughter, Colleen. Howard and Doreen farmed together until her passing in 1990. As well as grain farming, Howard worked for Manitoba Crop Insurance for many years, was a car salesman with Tweeds of Medora, and helped Doreen drive a school van. During his years on the farm he also served on many boards, sang bass in the Medora United Church choir, and was a member of the Southwest Mens Choir. He and Doreen enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, and socializing with family and friends, at home and at Sharpe Lake. In 1992, Howard was fortunate to find happiness again as he married Doreen Wheeler. They spent the past twenty years as golfers, spectators at many sporting events, Wheat Kings season ticket holders, and until last year, enjoyed the spring, summer, and fall at the cottage on Brandosa Beach. Howard and Doreen made many trips around the countryside as they enthusiastically supported their grandchildren in all of their athletic pursuits. Howard enjoyed nothing more than a good visit with family and friends, and because he had met many people during his working life, no matter where he went, he always had someone to visit with. Howard has left behind a family who loved him dearly: his wife, Doreen of Brandon, daughter Colleen Adams and son-in-law, Rob Adams of Boissevain, two grandchildren- Kirby Stone and her husband Dustin of Wawanesa, Tanner Adams and his partner Alaina Cook of Boissevain. Howards passing is also mourned by Doreens children and grandchildren who have embraced him as part of their family for the last twenty years: Murray and Donna Smith of Brandon and their family, Greg and Kim Smith and family of Winnipeg, Nancy Lintott of Brandon and her family, Jim and Betty Wheeler of Barrie, Ontario and their family, Rick and Wendy Wheeler and family of Winnipeg, and Patti Ilott and family of Winnipeg. Howard is also lovingly remembered by his brother, Bob and sister-in-law Eunice of Milestone, Sask., sisters Dorothy Howse of Pangman, Sask. and Edith Schultz of Milestone, sister-in-law Doris Sambrook of Pangman, Sask., sister-in-law Freda Davidson and her husband, Ken of Carberry, sister-in-law Trudy Wells of Florida, and many nieces and nephews. Howard was predeceased by his wife, Doreen, parents Tom and Margaret, step-son Gary Smith, his brother Tom, brothers-in-law Knute Tingvold, Wilmar Schultz, and John Howse. A graveside service, conducted by Rev. Allan Gairns, was held at the Medora Cemetery on April 4th with Smiths Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Urn bearers were grandchildren Tanner Adams and Kirby Stone. Donations in Howards memory may be made to the Medora Cemetery Fund, Medora, Manitoba, R0M 1K0.
