BALDWIN: Raymond Murray Baldwin passed away after a short illness at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg with family and close friends at his side on February 17, 2012. Ray grew was born on December 26, 1961 and was the son of Mary and the late Bert Baldwin. Ray grew up on the family farm at Cardale learning to love the outdoors and belonging to the community. He attended Sunday School at Cardale and played on many local ball and hockey teams over the years. Ray started school at Hamiota Elementary school and graduated from Hamiota Collegiate in 1979. Following that he attended the University of Manitoba taking a Diploma course ion Agriculture. He liked to move around and had many jobs in different places. He farmed the home place for a few years but realized that it wasnt meant for him. It was during this time that he spent a few winter months at Panorama Ski Resort in B.C. He worked several years for Zenith Paving in Brandon and five years with Grain Commission in Prince Rupert, B.C. Trucking was one of his favorite jobs and he drove semis for several different companies and enjoyed seeing a lot of Canada and the U.S.A. He loved to travel and took several trips starting as a teenager going by motorcycle out to the west coast with his cousin. In the past few years he traveled to Mexico, Cuba, and Las Vegas. For the past ten years he has worked for Vale Nickel Mine at Thompson where he made a great many friends. He enjoyed his life in the north , his cabin at Paint Lake, boating, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and quadding. Recently he had bought a Harley Davidson and was looking forward to some new adventures. He still loved his farm home and returned as often as possible to visit family and friends. He enjoyed attending he McConnell reunion in August 2011 where he had a chance to catch up with many friends and classmates. He was a kind and fun person to be with and leaves a host of friends from near and far. He is survived by his mother Mary; sister Eleanor (Bill) Bradley; n iece Krista (Brad) Congdon; nephew Cody Bradley; close friend Nancy Strachan; aunts Winnifred Yorke and Ethel Clement; uncles William (Peggy) Longstaff, Douglas (Ruby) Longstaff, Charlie Longstaff; and numerous cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father Bert; aunts Mildred Longstaff, Doris (Baldwin) Youngs, Elsie (Baldwin) Petty, Audrey Baldwin; Uncle Art Baldwin and cousins Bruce Longstaff and Gail (Youngs) Wolfgram. A celebration of Rays life was held on February 25, 2012 in Hamiota United Church with Rev. Rachel Robinson officiating. Pallbearers were Kevin Hyndman, Larry Houck, Shawn Wilson, Bob McCutcheon, Rene Daigle and George Armstrong. Soloist was Rays cousin Don Longstaff. Campbell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. The interment was held in the Hamiota Cemetery. To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die.
