DENT: Dorothy Bertha Dent (nee Craig), born August 7, 1921 in Angusville, MB, passed away peacefully at Middlechurch Home, Winnipeg, Wednesday, March 14, 2012. Dorothy married Bruce Alton Dent December 30, 1941. After the war, they moved back to Manitoba where Bruce worked as a mechanic for over 30 years and Dorothy epitomized the definition of home maker. Many friends benefitted from the skills she honed raising and caring for her family. Dorothy was a wonderful cook and baker, peerless at preserving wild fruit, and consistently grew bountiful gardens. Her raspberries seemed to grow bigger and more plentiful than anyone else’s, and her cookie jar was always full when the grandchildren visited. She had a great wit which she used – good naturedly – as she was beating the pants off you playing cards. Dorothy was the life of every family gathering. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and by those whose lives she touched over many decades. She paid visits, always with a gift of her delicious baking or jam, drove friends to many appointments, including to everyone’s favourite hairdresser Sandra Cadieux in Binscarth, and was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. This generous spirit of helping others came full circle with the care she received from neighbours in the latter years, particularly from Ken and Candy Clunas next door. Dorothy is survived by her children: T. B. Dent of Saskatoon, David Dent and Harold Dent both of Winnipeg; six grandchildren: Bruce Dent (Keitha Clark) of Whitehorse YT, Nancy (Ryan) Martin of Houston TX, Linda Dent (George Taylor) of Calgary, Sheldon Dent of Winnipeg, Shelley Dent of Calgary, Shannon Sansom of Winnipeg; and five great-grandchildren: Rowan and Malcolm Dent, Whitehorse; Tessa Martin, Houston; Braeden and Tyler Sansom, Winnipeg; niece and nephews Anna Pazdzierski and family, Teulon, John, Rea and Jim Pennington and families of Winnipeg, Selkirk and Weyburn respectively. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Annie (Rea) and Thomas Craig, husband Bruce, sister and brother-in-law Esther and Horace Pennington, and daughter-in-law Barbara (Reed) Dent. Funeral service held 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 17 at Knox United Church, Russell MB, Rev. David Howell officiating. Donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the Russell Hospital. Braendle Bruce Funeral Service entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements.
