Shirley at 6 months old was stuck with the out break of polio. She was accepted into the Shriners Hospital for crippled children at age 4. She spent the next 10 years going to school and living in and out of the Shriners which she had 15 operations to help her overcome her disability to walk. Nurses would write letters home for mom until she learnt to write herself. Never complaining of her pain only to ask how her brothers and sister were. Those letters were saved by Shirley's Mom in a scrapbook of Shirley's life in the Shriners. Shirley moved on with life, left with just a swing in her leg as she walked. Later in life she was in a wheel chair. Shirley loved her job as a telephone switchboard operator for the Manitoba Telephone Company in Austin until she married David Little Of MacGregor in 1958. Shirley and David raised three children and lived most of their married life in Winnipeg. After the passing of Dad, mom moved to Carberry residing the last 11 years at the Carberry Lodge. Her favorite thing to do was play cards with her friends. Mom was a very proud, strong, independent woman who struggled with her disabilities with grace and determination not to be a burden to any one. She had a great sense of humour, great smile, and laughter to go with it ...She loved to be with the family and enjoyed her friends.MOM, God knew you might never get well upon this earth again. He saw the roadways getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. So he closed your weary eyelids and whispered; "Peace be thine".It broke our hearts to lose you but you never went alone,For part of us went with you The day God called you home. Love and memories foreverin our hearts.God has made you pain free we can be grateful.Love, daughter Toni, son Dave, and family.
