ANGUS: Gordon Fraser: December 19, 1938 – May 3, 2012; beloved husband of Barbara, entered into rest at the Hamiota District Health Centre. Fraser was born in Crandall, MB, the second son of Gordon and Irene Angus. Fraser’s early years were spent on the farm, between Lenore and Crandall, with his brothers Melvin and Don and sister Doreen. Fraser attended Ravine School. During his last few years of schooling, he lived and worked for the Brays: Stella, Nellie and Harvey, going to school from their home. Fraser well remembered their kindness. Upon leaving school, he began to work for local farmers. Later he began to work in the construction business under the watchful eye of Lester Brown of Lenore. Out of these years developed a love for both farming and construction work. He continued working in both until a carbon monoxide accident destroyed his lungs in January, 2000. Shortly after this tragedy, he and Barbara retired to Oak River. Fraser married Barbara Power in December of 1958, following which they settled down to farming in the Oak River district where they raised their children Marianne and Colin. Eventually daughter Marianne married the boy next door, Alex Gerrard. They farmed together until Fraser’s retirement. During those years they had the joy of sharing in the growing up years of their grandchildren Bobbi, Gordon and Raymond. After retiring to Oak River, the joy of Fraser’s life were his great grandchildren Seth, Kalen, Avery White and Rachelle Gerrard. Fraser and Barbara were blest with 53 years of marriage. In the early years of the marriage they were also privileged to have Fraser’s cousins, Bob and Brian Taylor, come from the city of Winnipeg to spend the summer in the country. During the winter months Fraser at various times enjoyed curling, ski-dooing and trapping. In the fall he enjoyed deer hunting with the boys. During the summer months (if time) he enjoyed fishing and “attempting” to water ski. They enjoyed several winter time trips to the United States mostly in the company of Barbara’s cousins from the Lloydminster area, Glen and Hazel Detchon, and one trip to Las Vegas with Alex’s parents, Tom and Lil Gerrard. In the fall of 2002 they had one final great adventure travelling by train and ferry to the Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida Gwaii) to visit son Colin, an engineer in the forestry industry, and his wife Claudia. Fraser even caught a big salmon! Fraser is survived by his wife Barbara; daughter Marianne (Alex) Gerrard; son Colin (Claudia) Angus; granddaughter Bobbi (Jeff) White; grandsons Gordon and Raymond Gerrard; great grandchildren Seth, Kalen, Avery White, Rachelle Gerrard; sister Doreen (Bill) Edgar; brother Don (Shirley) Angus; sister in-law Anne Mawer and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Fraser was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Irene; his brother Melvin; and his brothers in-law Ray Power, Rodger Mawer, and Jim Edgar. A private family interment was held at Scotia Cemetery following which the service to celebrate Fraser’s life was held in Oak River, May 8, 2012, with Pastor Jason Hodson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Hamiota District Health Centre Foundation, Box 671, Hamiota, MB, R0M 0T0; the Lung Association Manitoba, 8-940 Princess Ave, Brandon, MB, R7A 0P6; or to a charity of one’s choice. Campbell Funeral Home, Hamiota were in care of arrangements. God saw that he was wearyAnd the hill was hard to climbSo He closed his weary eyelidsAnd whispered “Peace Be Thine”.
