STROHMAN: Aleta Laverne Marie Strohman (Nee Rochelle) born April 13, 1931 - Died Feb. 14, 2012. Aleta passed away peacefully with her family at her side, Aleta was born in Elphinstone, Manitoba, She was the eldest daughter of Nick and Anne Rochelle. Aleta was predeceased by her parents Nick Rochelle in 1995, Anne Rochelle in 1997 and her eldest daughter Donna MacDonald in 2007. Surviving her are her husband of 53 years, Fred Strohman of Neepawa, her youngest daughter Dolores Strohman of Neepawa, her only granddaughter, Jennifer MacDonald (Allan) of Dauphin, her two great grandchildren Lee MacDonald and Ashley Asham of Dauphin, her only sister Lucille Lewandoski (Ray) of Sandy Lake, nephew Garrett Lewandoski and family of Winnipeg, niece Marla-Rae Lewandoski of Denver Colarado, U.S.A., sister- in-law Wilma Sawatzky (Erwin) of Neepawa. Aleta was a busy lady, if my memory is correct Mom’s first job was working for a lady in the Crawford Park area, doing house cleaning and laundry, than went to work at the first bus depot in Neepawa. She married Fred Strohman Jr. on June 14, 1958, they started their married life in Gladstone, Manitoba, where there eldest daughter Donna was born and then in 1962 they moved to Thompson, Manitoba, where there youngest daughter Dolores was born. They lived up there for 29 years and in that time mom enjoyed bowling and curling with dad, they also played cards at different friends places. Mom also took in boarders in the basement suite, she also sold Fuller Brush for awhile, she liked going camping until camping turned into weekends at the cabin on Paint Lake, she liked to go fishing while at the cabin. She loved to travel and visit relatives in the U.S.A, and of course in Canada. Mom was a member of the Thompson Hospital Auxiliary. She joined the Thompson Royal Purple in 1966 where she kept her membership in Neepawa & Gladstone until per passing. In 1990 they moved back home where Mom became a member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Elks of Canada, both in Neepawa. She also got into selling Avon for a while. She enjoyed working in her garden and flower beds and going for walks in the evening when bugs weren’t eating her alive. One of the things she loved the most was going to bingo and yelling that all important word “BINGO”, which she did every now and then. The memorial service was held on June 22, 2012 at White’s Funeral Home in Neepawa, Manitoba. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Neepawa, Manitoba with a luncheon to follow at the Legion Hall in Neepawa, Manitoba.
