ATKINSON: Peacefully on Monday, July 2, 2012 Linda Joan Atkinson, age 58 years, beloved wife of Rod, passed away at the Fairview Home. Linda was born May 15, 1954 in Rivers, MB to John and Erma Wyness. She was the eldest of four children. Linda was a quiet and gentle little girl often being the little mother to her siblings. As a young girl, she spent many hours at the local curling rink in the winter where her parents curled. It didn't take long to see that Linda was a natural curler and the game became her passion. Most summers were spent camping at Rivers Lake. She enjoyed swimming, campfires and waterskiing, but most of the time drove the boat so others could ski. Linda took piano lessons and played in the Rivers Orchestra. She played beautifully but usually no one heard her as she only played for herself. Linda attended Rivers Elementary School and Rivers High School graduating in 1972. She received the top award given in the Rolling River School Division for Business Administration. While in High School, Linda also skipped her team to two Provincial High School playdowns. After high school, Linda was employed as Secretary to the Principal of the Rivers Elementary School. A year later, she moved to Brandon and accepted a position at the old Assiniboine Hospital and then later transferred to the Brandon General Hospital in Nursing Services. Linda was employed in other positions at the hospital before moving into Human Resources. There she got to know most of the staff at the Brandon General Hospital and enjoyed assisting them with their H.R. related needs. Linda was employed at the Brandon General Hospital for 25 years until her sudden illness in May of 1998. She was never able to recover completely and resided in Fairview Personal Care Home until her passing. She cherished her years of good health, spending time at the family cottage at Sandy Lake with family and friends. In winter she continued her love of curling in local leagues and bonspiels in the region. Linda continued to play the piano as this was one of her methods of relaxation during the few quiet times at home. Linda was very dedicated to her family and was a loving wife and mother to her three sons. Linda is survived by her husband Rod; three sons Kurtis, Clark (Christina) and Steven Atkinson; mother Erma Wyness; sister Deby (Dave) Murray and brother Rob (Valerie) Wyness and brother-in-law Dave Meadows. Two grandchildren Bree and William Atkinson as well as many nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her father John Wyness and sister Barb Meadows. A private graveside service was held at Rivers Cemetery with Rev. Glenna Beauchamp officiating. Donations in Linda's memory may be made to The Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3.Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.Arrangements withMemories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
