RATTIE: Margaret Louise (nee Yake). October 05, 1926 -June 20, 2012. With her family by her side, it is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother on June 20, 2012 at the Tri-Lake Health Centre in Killarney, Manitoba at the age of 85. Margaret was born on October 5, 1926 in Mather, Manitoba to Oscar & Mabel Yake. She was the third youngest in a family of 10 brothers and sisters. On November 03, 1945 she married Wilbert Rattie and they made Cartwright, Manitoba their lifelong home. Wilbert predeceased her on October 07, 2008. She was also predeceased by her brothers Fred, Murray, Ernie, Harland, and sisters Norva, Mae, and Iva. She is survived by one sister Jo Christoff and one brother Bert Yake, both of Manitou, Manitoba. Margaret leaves to mourn her four children: Ron (Brandon), Judy (Bob) Killarney, Doug (Winnipeg), Wendy (Roger) Brandon; seven grandchildren: Cori, Christi (Marv), Shayne (Rhonda), Connor (Glynis). Six great-grandchildren: Colton, Morgan, Jaycee, Kyra, Brielle and Caleb. She also leaves numerous special nieces and nephews, and many great friends and neighbors. Margaret worked as a cook at the Cartwright Hotel and later at the Co-op in Cartwright as a bookkeeper. Margaret was a fantastic cook and in a way that no one else in the family could ever recreate. Wilbert often teased her that she knowingly left out a secret ingredient when someone asked her to share her recipe. She continued to make her famous homemade buns, bread, and soups up until just weeks before her passing. Her greatest joy was getting the whole family together for a meal she had prepared and no one ever left without something in their hand. She enjoyed watching curling and baseball, playing bingo, crib and cards, and her weekly trips on the Handy Van to spend time with her friends. For many years she kept a diary in a Hilroy Scribbler with the words “Keep Out” bolded on the front page. Margaret tried so hard to continue doing things herself after losing Wilbert and she was determined to live independently and not in a care home. Even during her final days at home and while in the hospital regardless of how she was truly feeling, she would always smile and say, “I’m good”. She touched the lives of many people with her loving and young at heart hospitable nature. She embraced her role as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother with so much love and pride. A celebration of Margaret’s life was held Monday, June 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Cartwright Centennial Hall with Reverend Beth Clark officiating, and Cheryl Dousselaere provided the music. The eulogy was given by grandsons Shayne and Connor Thomson and special niece Dawn Lamb sang one of Margaret’s favorite hymns “In The Garden”. Pallbearers were: Bob Yake, Darell Vodden, Marlin Vanrobaeys, Robert Maxwell, Doug Carr, Randy Livingstone. Honorary Pallbearers were: Rob and Cheryl Sveinson, Janet Matheson, Lana Martin, Thelma Haight, Jean Fluker, Olive Harris, Carol and Kenny McKenzie, Donna Wilm, Rene and Lorraine Dousselaere, Morley Rooney, Janice McDonald, Adele Marchant.
