The last in a family of six, she was predeceased by her brothers, Ken, Harold, Hector, and Ronnie and her sister, Helen Born January 18, 1922 in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Margaret enjoyed an active, happy childhood with her large family, in this thriving railroad community. But she also saw the devastation of the depression as men rode the rails, and she never forgot those worrisome days. Following High School graduation, Margaret enrolled in nursing studies at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. When she completed her studies, she was hired as a night supervisor at the Grace, and it was here that she met Ben Sutter. They were married April 6, 1945 and lived briefly in Winnipeg and Wawanesa before settling in Souris in 1951.Margaret was a member of St. Paul’s United Church, the U.C.W., and the Rebekahs for over 50 years. A good athlete, she enjoyed figure skating, tennis, curling, swimming, golfing and dancing. Music was integral to her life. She was a good singer and ensured that her children had musical training. Gardening with Ben was a mutual passion. They belonged to the Horticultural Society of Souris and won many awards for their flowers and beautiful home grounds. Margaret was an avid bridge player, first in the neighbor hood bridge club, and, in her later years, at the Souris Drop-In Centre. As an individual, Margaret was shy, caring, compassionate, and warm hearted. She devoted her life to raising her family and took great pride in her husband’s, children’s, and grandchildren’s accomplishments. She will be remembered for her strength of character, determination, insight, sense of humor, and common sense. Margaret Sutter was a gentle woman with a big heart. Our deepest thanks to Rev. Wendy Rankin who conducted the funeral service on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at St. Paul’s United Church and the internment at Souris and Glenwood Cemetery; to Urn bearer, grandson Constable Michael Klassen; to the UCW who provided lunch following the service; and to family a friends for their many demonstrations of support during our time of loss.
