NIZNOWSKI: Frank Niznowski passed away early Sunday morning, August 12, 2012, after a lengthy stay of almost five months in the Assiniboine Hospital. Frank was born at Oakburn, Manitoba on May 28, 1934 to parents Mike and Cora Niznowski. At the young age of 2 1/2 years, his father lost his life in a drowning. Frank and his mother Cora moved to the Zaparoza District when he was nine years old. They lived on a farm where he attended Zaparoza School. Even at a young age, Frank was the one who went early to school to light the wood stove before the other children arrived. Frank liked to go to church, so he and his sister Jean would walk many miles from home to Olha to attend church. At an early age Frank went out cutting wood for people, helping farmers at haying time and harvest time. Later on he left for Ontario and worked in a bush camp. Upon returning home, he ventured out and worked in Shilo on construction. From Shilo he then came to Brandon where he also worked at construction. At one time Frank worked for his uncle Steve and even Lesias dad. It was at that time Lesia came into the picture. In 1961, he married Lesia Dnistranski making their home in Brandon. Frank always had a love for farming so having the farm at Olha was a joy for the family being able to spend weekends and time there also. He truly enjoyed hunting and fishing and carpentry, working and remodeling the buildings there. He loved music, especially country and Ukrainian music. Whenever his young grandson was here from the coast, he enjoyed taking him around by the lake and barbecuing with him. He leaves to mourn his wife Lesia, three children Barry, Wayne and Brenda (Andy), and grandson Bryden Niznowski. Also surviving are: one sister Tina in Winnipeg, step brother Walter Madaniuk (Sonya), step sister Stella Sitko (Frank), numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Frank was predeceased by his parents Mike and Cora, sisters Jean, Ann and brother Peter. Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Friday, August 17, 2012 at St. Marys Ukrainian Catholic Church. Celebrant was Rev. Fr. Michael Tkachuk. Cantor was Stella Fedeniuk. Pallbearers were: Larry Grudinski, John Grudinski, Daryl Drozda, Tony Yuriy, Bill Tomiski and Pete Kaskiw. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery.
