NAY: Robert Byrne. Peacefully, on August 20, 2012, Robert (age 90) passed away at Rideau Park Personal Care Home. Bob was born in Brandon on May 10, 1922. At 18, Bob joined the RCAF and served in York, England as an airframe mechanic, attaining the rank of corporal. Upon his discharge in 1945, he attended Brandon University in Business Administration. He commenced employment with the Manitoba Highways Department and retired in 1987 as Chief Administrative Officer for the Brandon District, a career that spanned 36 years. In 1950, he married Ferne (nee Maloney). They had two sons, Dallas (deceased 1998) and Darrell. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Ferne (Mississauga), daughter-in-law Lynda Nay Kamann (Brandon), granddaughters Ashley and Kelsey, son Darrell (Cori) (Mississauga), and grandsons Curtis, Kevin and Cameron. Sister Marie Chantler (Brandon) and niece Carole. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. Bob was a member of Brandon Legion Branch No. 3 and A.N.A.F. Bob loved his family and took great pride in their accomplishments. The Memorial Service was held at St. Matthews Cathedral on August 31, 2012.
