GILMOUR: Dennis Gilmour passed away suddenly at his home in Justice, MB on Sunday, September 9, 2012. He was the son of James John Gilmour, a Scottish immigrant and veteran of the First World War, and Ella May (nee Wood) Gilmour, his war bride. Dennis was born on November 6, his father's birthday, in 1927, in Justice. He lived all his life on the farm with his parents until their passing and remained on the farm until his death. He attended Norman School and as a youngster used to run across to the school two hours early to light the fires for twenty-five cents every morning. Dennis worked for Elmer Kennedy at the Justice Store in 1946/47, hauling groceries, delivering coal and drums of fuel oil to area farmers. Dennis was a self-taught carpenter, learning from manuals and magazines, and built fine cabinets and cupboards for friends. He remodeled the family home and helped the Justice Community Club when they were converting the Justice School into a Community Centre. He did very fine and exacting work. Dennis was an active member of several organizations including the Norman Community Club, the Norman School Cairn Committee and the Justice Pool Elevator. Dennis loved to travel with Laval in the truck and went on many trips to various places. Heespecially enjoyed the trips with Laval in 1964 and 1967 when he moved Frank Southern to Boston Bar, and back again, the three good friends enjoying theget together. Dennis loved British Columbia and later would drive out to see his special friends, Frank and Betty. He also went out to Wendy's wedding in 1979, taking Frank's Dad, Ted Southern with him. Dennis loved children, and would go on Christmas Eve to friends to watch them decorate the tree and would return the next morning to have breakfast with the family on Christmas Day, always remembering the children. He was a very caring son, looking after his mother so well after she lost her sight. In later years he enjoyed keeping in contact with many friends by phone or visits, and almost weekly visited Barry Nevin, watching him load seed and staying for tea. Dennis was predeceased by his father in 1972 and his mother in 1997. Funeral service will take place at the Justice Mennonite Brethren Church, Justice, MB on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Gerry Harms officiating. Interment will follow at the Moore Park Cemetery, Moore Park, MB.
