WHITE: It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gordon Earl White. He was our cherished husband, father, father -in-law, grandfather and great grandfather. Gordon passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side at the Assiniboine Centre on Oct. 11, 2012. Gordon was born May, 2, 1932 to Agnes and George White. He was the youngest of eight children. He was born in the Russell Municipality and raised in Binscarth where his parents owned and operated a town filling station. After leaving school he was employed with the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1951 out of Brandon. On August 21, 1954 he married Gail Elizabeth Josephine Smith on the family farm. They moved to Brandon where Gordon continued to work for the CPR as a fireman until 1959. Gordon began work as a firefighter for the City of Brandon in January 1959. He was proud to have served in the department for 38 years and achieved Lieutenant status before he officially retired in 1997. Dads strong work ethic led him down many other opportunities of employment such as shingling, painting, real estate, mushroom farming and for a short time he owned and operated a small moving company with his two sons. Gordon enjoyed many family vacations; camping in the early years followed by a family haven in Minnedosa, and then a family built cabin at Clear Lake. Gordon enjoyed many cherished moments at the lake watching his children and grandchildren for hours on end at the beach. Gordon actively and proudly followed his children. He was an active member of Brandon Minor Hockey for many years where he proudly helped coach the Bantam team to a Provincial Championship. He then followed his grandchildren in all their life endeavors. He was known to many to be a permanent fixture and the biggest, proudest fan at these events. Grandpa was relied on and expected to attend all our events. Rain or shine, early or late- he was there! Grandpa was fun-loving and enjoyed playing jokes and teasing us all-much to our loving dismay. Gordon and Gail travelled extensively. Some of his favorites were to Great Britain, Jamaica and Hawaii. He was an active parishioner of St. Mary's Anglican Church. Gordon and Gail resided for many years in the Eastend and most recently lived at Lion’s Manor. Gordon enjoyed participating in many events and games at the manor. Gordon leaves behind his adored wife Gail; his children Ken (Holly), Keith, Marie (Bruce), and Barbara (Mark); grandchildren Caitlin, Ryan, Courtney, Brin, Zachary, Gabriel, Seth, Rylee, Kallie, and Sydnee; great grandchildren Kolby, Dominick and Tanner; siblings Bernard White, Imogen Pizzey, Les White (Dorothy) and sister-in-law Del White. He was predeceased by his parents Agnes and George; siblings Arthur White, Joan (Don) Charles, Murray Pizzey, Muriel (Garnet) Scarrow, Phyllis (Roy) Shaw, and Gladys White; nephews George and David; nieces Beverly and Judy, and parents-in-law Cecil and Margaret Smith. Honorary pallbearers were his beloved grandchildren. Funeral service was held at St. Mary's Anglican Church, on Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Rev. John Dolloff officiated. A private family committal was held at the Brandon Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made atwww.memorieschapel.com.Arrangements with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 204-727-0330
