CANTLON: A graveside memorial service was held at Riverside Cemetery in Hartney on October 13th for Jennifer Cantlon, who passed away peacefully on September 15th, 2012, to join Arthur her dear husband of 67 years. Jennifer is lovingly remembered by her son David (Glenda) Cantlon, daughters Sandra (Don) Penny and Beryl (Ken) Webster, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her passing a sister Josephine Bott, sister-in-law Ella Kruk, sister-in-law Pat (Doug) McKinnon and many nieces and nephews. We have many memories of our Mother over her nearly 95 years. Jennifer was a dedicated and resourceful home maker and farm wife living in the Deleau district. Even though farm life was not easy for her, she baked prize winning cinnamon buns and shared her sewing talents with both her family and her community. She taught 4-H sewing classes, and kept her family well-dressed in her creations and we all got to wear her beautiful hand knit sweaters over the years. Gardening was a thread that ran through Mom's life. She and Dad always kept great vegetable & flower gardens and won numerous Brandon Horticultural Society prizes. They left a family legacy of both healthful eating and beautifying one's home and their record for canned tomatoes one year, while both in their 80's, was over 120 quarts. Jennifer was a competitive sports woman. Mom crafted her costumes and skated in the Hartney Ice Shows in the '50s then continued skating at the Keystone for many years. She loved her golf and curled with a team in the Senior Ladies Provincial play downs. She and Arthur rarely missed a Wheat Kings hockey game and followed their WHL and NHL teams on TV and radio in later years. Mom packed picnic lunches for hours of entertainment at week end ball tournaments at Curran Park and in rural Manitoba. A fiddler at community dances in Deleau School in her earlier years, music remained a joy through line dance and clogging groups while in Brandon, and Jennifer went to the Calgary Stampede to perform with the Prairie Oasis Cloggers in 1991. Mom kept in touch with national and world affairs and although her memory did not serve her as well later on, she subscribed to the Brandon Sun until she passed. Jennifer loved the Bus Tours she and Arthur took, where they met new people and enjoyed new places in Canada and the US. Jennifer and Arthur both spent their last days in Fairview Personal Care Home with Arthur passing on in May of 2008. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff, Dr. Davloor, and the Golden Girls for the exceptional care and the friendship they received while living there. We also offer our thanks to family, friends and community professionals who supported our parents and continued to keep in touch over the years. A sincere thank you to Dexter at Kowalchuk's Funeral Home in Souris and to the Reverend Wendy Rankin for their services, as well as to those who sent donations to the Fairview Foundation in Mom's memory. Arthur and Jennifer were rarely seen apart in life and they are now together once again for eternity.
