ROSCOE: Peacefully on October 18th, 2012 in his 91st year of life Joe passed away. Joe was born in Brandon, MB on May 19 1921, the son of Sophie & Frank Roski. At 19 years of age in June 1940, he enlisted in The Royal Winnipeg Rifles and served proudly in World War II until his discharge in September1945. Shortly following his return from the war he met Doreen Sheardown. They were married in 1948 and shared 50 wonderful years together. In 1956 they purchased their first, and last home where they lived for the rest of their lives. They loved to travel to Mexico and Las Vegas in the early years of their marriage. In 1948 they welcomed their first son Danny, and son Terry followed in 1952. A proud father who enjoyed coaching his sons sports teams, Joe worked at both CNR, and the Dutch Bakery prior to his 25 year employment at Canada Post. Throughout his well deserved retirement, he loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was a home body, and always joked he had walked through Europe for 5 years and that he had travelled enough to last a lifetime. He enjoyed spending time at the Legion where he was very involved, and an extremely proud Veteran. He was also a very proud Grandfather who never missed a recital, Christmas concert, birthday, graduation, or any important milestone in his Grandchildren's lives. His presence always brought joy to a room, as he was quite the charmer. His famous dance moves, singing, and hysterical comments were always memorable. He was always up on the latest health information and was the first to tell anyone who visited him or whom he visited his newest health tip. His grandchildren remember well that every time they left grandpa's house he would present them with a chocolate, a werthers, or a loonie. Joe was predeceased by his wife Doreen in 1998, parents Sophie & Frank. Siblings Emily, Ann, Mickey, Pete, and Bill and beloved Granddaughter Trish. Left to remember Joe are his sons Danny Roscoe (Cheryle), Terry Roscoe (Donna), grandchildren Logan Armstrong (Rory) Stephanie Roscoe, Terry Brown, Jordy and Great Grandchildren Ashley and Jade. A private family graveside service was held in the Veterans' Section of the Brandon Cemetery. Honor Guard was provided by Legion Branch #3 members. Officiant was Legion Padre Chris Arthur. A Come and Go reception to honor Joseph's life followed at Memories Chapel. Donations in memory of Joseph may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada, Winnipeg Chapter, P.O. Box 21008 RPO Charleswood, Winnipeg, MB R3R 3R2 or The Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB R7A 2W8. A special thank you to the wonderful nurses at the Assiniboine Centre in Palliative Care for taking the time to be so compassionate and caring. The four nursing students from BU were especially wonderful, and in particular Kaitlyn, who really touched all of our hearts. These wonderful girls made Grandpa's days so wonderful and told him they would wear poppies in his honor on Remembrance Day. Such a gesture meant the World to him. His favourite salutation was......."May the good Lord take a liking to you" and Dad/Joe/Grandpa........"May the good Lord take a liking to you!" Bye for now.Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.Arrangements withMemories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre,204-727-0330
