LAFLEUR:Elizabeth Ellen (nee Johnson), August 1, 1924 - October 15, 2012. Elizabeth (Betty) Lafleur of Airdrie, AB, passed away on October 15, 2012 at the age of 88 years. Betty was born in Cambuslang, Scotland, though spent most of her younger life in Edinburgh. In 1949, she immigrated to Canada, settling in Kitchener, Ontario where she met Joseph Marcel Lafleur. They fell in love and were married in 1952. Throughout Josephs military career the family moved often, residing in Picton, ON, Kingston, ON, Montreal, QC and Huntsville, Alabama before settling down in Shilo, Manitoba. During their travels, the family grew with the addition of five children (Thomas, Peter, Andreé, James and Michael). Betty had a love for horse riding and figure skating, teaching both at various times in her life. She also dedicated many years to the Cub Scouts as a leader in Shilo. After the death of Joseph in 1974, the focus of her dedication turned to her family. As most of the children slowly migrated west, Betty soon followed to be near her family, landing in Didsbury, Alberta. Her final stop was under the care of her son, James, in Airdrie, Alberta. Those who knew her will forever remember her as a wonderful friend, loving wife and caring mother. Mum, you taught us well and will always be in our hearts. May you once again find peace by Dads side. Betty is survived by her five children (their spouses and grand children): sons Thomas Joseph Lafleur (Steven and Nikki) of Airdrie, AB; Peter Marcel Lafleur (Laurie, Mackenzie and Addison) of Peterborough, ON; daughter Andreé Elizabeth Hammond (Gary, Erin and Morgan) of Calgary, AB; and sons James Paul Lafleur and Michael Edward Lafleur of Airdrie, AB. Betty was predeceased in 1974 by her loving husband Joseph Marcel Lafleur. Private family services were already held.
