CHARKOS: William (Bill) Patrick passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the age of 72 years. Bill was born at Rivers, Manitoba on April 12, 1940. He received his education in Rivers where he had to learn English in grade one as only Ukrainian was spoken in his home. Upon finishing school he started working with Canadian National Railroad in Miniota. He left Manitoba to work with the CNR in Kamloops, British Columbia. He returned to Manitoba in the early seventies and started workwith Canadian Pacific. On July 27, 1974, he married Judy Riley. On August 24, 1976, their first daughter, Shawna Marie, was born. On October 30, 1978, their second daughter Jacqueline Rae was born. Bill loved the game of hockey, especially the Brandon Wheat Kings. He and Judy have had season tickets for many years. He also loved fishing and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Judy; daughters Shawna (Curtis) Gray of Brandon and Jackie (Wesley) Carnegie of The Pas, Manitoba. There are four grandchildren: Anson and Avila Gray and Ethan and Addison Carnegie. Also surviving are his brother Michael (Nell) Charkos of Kamloops, British Columbia; two nieces and six nephews as well as some great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Annie and Phillip Charkos; sister Mary Holloway and her husband Robert; sister Lena Gibson who was killed in a car accident August 2012 and her husband Charles (Chuck) in 1992 and nephew Ronald Charkos. Bill is also survived by Judy's family: Sisters Sharon (William) Neild and Janet (Douglas) Ferguson all of Brandon and Brother Jack (Barbara) Riley of St. Albert, Alberta. The funeral service was held at Memories Chapel on Friday, November 2, 2012. Arlene Robertson officiated. Placement of the cremated remains followed at the Brandon Cemetery Columbarium. Donations in memory of Bill may be made to a charity of choice. Special thanks to sons-in-law Curtis Gray and Wesley Carnegie for being the urn bearers.
