SILVIUS: Irvin Neal "Dusty" Silvius of Brandon, formerly of Rivers, Manitoba passed away on October 15, 2012 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Irvin was born on November 29, 1924 and raised at Walpole, Saskatchewan. He was the oldest of four brothers. In November of 1943, at the age of 19, he enlisted in the army as a private in the infantry and was stationed in England and France during World War II. In August of 1944 he was wounded at Falaise Gap, France, and ultimately medically discharged from the army. He began working as a laborer for the Canadian National Railway in June of 1946, progressing to Section Forman in 1951. His career with the CNR took him to many communities in Saskatchewan and Manitoba with his last move being to Rivers, Manitoba in 1969. Two major career stops with the CNR were 17 years spent in Fairlight, SK and 15 years in Rivers prior to retirement. Dad retired from the CNR in October, 1984, after 38 years of dedicated service. Irvin married the late Bernie Marjorie Hoff on July 17, 1948. They raised a family of four boys and shared over sixty years together. Dad enjoyed all sports especially baseball, football, hockey and curling. He was a very enthusiastic spectator of sporting events; with all his movements and actions it was like he was out there playing the game trying to help out. Dad was an avid curler, and very active in the Fairlight community as minor youth coach for both hockey and baseball. For several years he volunteered as ice maker for both the hockey and curling rink and umpired senior baseball for many years. Mom and he attended many Briers, Scotties and world curling championships over the years. He enjoyed fishing, camping and spent hours tending his immaculate vegetable gardens. He always enjoyed watching the sporting events of his grandchildren who lived near to him. He is survived by his four boys: Ray (Valerie) of Winnipeg, Alan (Darlene) of Brandon, Kevin (Peggy) of Regina and Larry (Eileen) of Rivers; his precious grandchildren: Robin (Al), Angela (Dave), Lana (Myron), Jennifer (Colin), Ryan (Lisa), Christopher (Delee), Michael (friend Kelsey) and Jesse; his adorable great-grandchildren: Morgan, Brayden, Jillian, Riley, Georgia, Callum, Taggart, Sawyer, Aubrey, Abigail, Emma and Joshua (born 8 days after his passing). He also leaves behind his brother Clare (Donna); sister-in-law Joyce and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ray and Katyan (nee McKaskill); brothers John and Dale; and his precious grandson Jason Daniel Silvius. The ceremony to Celebrate Irvin's Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North, on Friday, November 30, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Wayne Sanderson of Trinity United Church will officiate.
