NEUFELD: Frank Neufeld, age 88 years, a former resident of Killarney, Manitoba and Hobbs Manor in Brandon, spent the last days of his life at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home where he died peacefully on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 with daughter Jane by his side. Frank was 6 years old when his family immigrated to Canada in 1930. After a number of moves, the family settled in the Holmfield area across from the John and Sara Tschetter farm. This move played a big part in Frank meeting his future wife of 50 years, Elizabeth Tschetter. Frank’s schooling ended when he was 10 years old. He always had a desire for more education and grieved this loss. Frank was a very intelligent man. He was a self-taught mechanic and spent many happy hours in his garage fixing vehicles and machinery. He was especially proud of an old 1950 Chevrolet that he was able to keep running until the farm auction of 1975. Frank was 18 or 19 when he went to Winnipeg to work in a bearing shop. When he was 19, he joined the Army as a Medic in the Fourth Division, which went in three weeks after D-Day and Juno beach. He came back to Canada in January 1946 – a changed man with post traumatic stress. He struggled with this condition, along with other mental disorders, for the remainder of his days. After his army discharge, he worked in a nickel mine in Sudbury, Ontario. In 1951, he married Elizabeth Tschetter and started farming. Through the help of Veterans Affairs, they bought land northeast of Killarney. He grain farmed and raised cattle as well as raised poultry for eggs. Here they raised three children Jane Boughton, Marilyn Thiessen (Harvey) and Leonard (Penny). These three children grew to eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. The farm was sold in 1975. A house was built in Killarney and this was where retired life began. He worked a selection of odd jobs. In his early years of retirement, Frank tried golfing, curling and fishing but reading remained his passion hobby. Frank was a Godly man who always prayed for his family. He was a Sunday school teacher in his church, and was always generous in his support for missions. His favourite missions were, MCC, food banks, Billy Graham Ministries and others. Frank was predeceased by his siblings Henry Neufeld (Mary), Abe Neufeld, George Neufeld (Katherine), Helen Neufeld, Sarah Martens (George), Mary Martens (John), John Neufeld (Frieda) and Jake Neufeld (Agnes). He is survived by his children Jane Boughton, Marilyn Thiessen (Harvey), Leonard Neufeld (Penny); brother Corny Neufeld (Lena); eight grandchildren and fourteen great- grandchildren. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, December 3, 2012 at Lakeview Community Church, Killarney, Manitoba. Pastor John Klassen officiated.
