BOYD: On Sunday, November 25, 2012 Robert Kenneth “Ken” Boyd, beloved husband of Kathy and adored father of Andrew, went home to God. Born April 12, 1955 in Toronto, Canada to Tom and Doris Boyd, Ken returned to Northern Ireland at six weeks of age. Ken was raised with his three siblings in Dundonald, near Belfast. He was always proud of being Canadian and enjoyed spending a summer here in his teens. He returned to Belfast and then on to Coventry to complete a degree on Hotel and Institutional Catering Management, and was accepted into the professional Guild. He was proud of having the opportunity of serving members of the British Royal Family early in his career. In 1976, he returned to Canada to work with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) at the Montreal Olympics outreach. With a team of volunteers, and a high school kitchen, Ken fed 1600 people three meals a day for a month. He then moved within YWAM to Hawaii to further his missions training. After a few more years in Britain, Ken moved back to Canada for the remainder of his life. While working in Cambridge, Ontario for YWAM Ken met the love of his life, Kathy. They married in 1983, in Brandon, Manitoba. Ken worked at Hillcrest Place until 1986 when they moved to British Columbia, and then Ontario for his career. In 1990, they returned to Brandon and he worked at Hillcrest Place ever since – a job he enjoyed. In 1993, Andrew Kenneth was born and was the delight of Ken’s life. Ken’s life was busy with family, friends, travel and work. He was active in church life, coaching Special Olympics and supporting World Vision. He enjoyed the worlds of finance and politics and would discuss them with anyone. He liked to teach budgeting and finance for people needing assistance. Ken loved his family and always wished he could spend more time with his parents, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews spread out across the world. Ken was a good friend, neighbour, co-worker, son, big brother, uncle and especially husband and father. Ken is survived by his wife of 29 years, Kathy; son Andrew; mother Doris Boyd of N. Ireland; brother David (Coleen) Boyd of New Zealand; sisters Sharon (Jim) Lyle of N. Ireland, Rosemary (Laurence) McBride of New Zealand, nieces and nephews Ryan Ferguson, Josh (Angela) Ferguson, Jenny Boyd, Lyndsay Boyd, Peter Lyle, Stuart Lyle, Danielle McBride, Conner McBride, David McBride and Lauren McBride, Douglas (Gosia) McKenzie; great nieces Willow, Tayla and Lena; great nephews James and Alastiar. He was predeceased by his father Tom Boyd. Funeral Service took place at Brandon Vineyard Church, 1327 Rosser Avenue, on Thursday, November 29, 2012. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Ken may be made to World Vision Christmas Gift Catalogue, through www.worldvision.ca. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.
