DENEKA: With family by her side, Verna Deneka (nee Bellas) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the age of 79 years. She will be lovingly missed by her sons Greg (Heather) Deneka and Rodney Deneka; daughters Debbie (Bernie) Everett and Cyndi (Paul) Solon; grandchildren Michael (Angela), Jennifer and Sydney; great-grandsons Jake and Jesse; brother Ken (Lois) Bellas and sister Frances (Stan) Tarnowski along with many nieces and nephews. Verna was born and raised in Brandon. She was predeceased by her husband Peter in February 2010, after 59 years of marriage. Mom worked at the Royal Oak Inn and Brandon University up to her retirement. She treasured family get-togethers and always looked forward to playing cards and games of Rummoli. She loved baking cookies for her grandchildren and cooking picture-perfect meals for her family! Mom was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxilary Branch #3 where she enjoyed working and sharing time with friends. The family would like to thank the 4th Floor staff and residents at Fairview Nursing Home for the warm welcome and care provided during the past year; the many caregivers at BRHC and especially the 3rd Floor at the Assiniboine Centre for their excellent care and compassion during this difficult time. A private family celebration of Vernas life with interment will be held at a later date.
