STOTT: Winnifred Fanny Stott (nee Hockley) passed away peacefully at Fairview Home in Brandon on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the “young” age of 103. Winnie was born on the family farm located 8 miles northwest of Brandon on July 14, 1909. She was the second oldest and only daughter of four children. As a young girl she attended Powerville School, a one-room prairie school house, and helped out on the family farm. In her spare time, she enjoyed plucking the strings of her banjo, playing tennis, picnicking at Lake Clemente, knitting, crocheting, sewing and baking. She later attended Brandon College in secretarial training, accepting a position as Secretary for Johnny Craig of Craig Motors. One warm summer night, Winnie met the love of her life, Stan Stott, at a local dance and they soon began courting. They later married on July 17, 1935 during the “dirty thirties” and were the first couple to be married in the rural church of Zion United. Winnie quickly took on the role of “farmer’s wife” as she and Stan operated what later became the Double SS Hereford Farm, which still remains in the family today. They had two children, a daughter Sharon and a son Cyril. Through the years, Winnie was an avid volunteer at her children’s school, many women’s church organizations including the Christian Women’s Club, the Zion UCW, and was a faithful serving member of McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church until her passing. She enjoyed singing and playing the banjo with the Westernaires trio and participating in various ladies quilting bees. She and Stan celebrated their 72nd Wedding Anniversary on July 17, 2007, 5 days prior to his passing. Winnie is lovingly remembered by her daughter Sharon (Ian) Bobiak of Cochrane, AB; granddaughter Shauna (Steven) Dyck and great-granddaughter Arianna of White City, SK; granddaughter Heidi (Dean) Dixon, great-granddaughter Tasia and great-grandson Parker of Cochrane, AB; and her son Cyril (Tiena) Stott; grandson Conrad (Pam) Stott, great-granddaughters Brittany and Brianne all of Brandon; granddaughter Amanda (Matt) Young of Nashville, TN. Winnie is predeceased by her husband Stan, her mother and father Marion and Fred Hockley, brothers George, Don and Vic Hockley and granddaughter Andrea Stott. Ceremony to Celebrate Winnie’s Life will be held at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church, 635 McDiarmid Drive on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 1:30 pm. with Rev. Earl Ricalton officiating. A private burial service will be held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens prior to the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Winnie may be made to McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church Missions, 635 McDiarmid Drive, Brandon, MB, R7B 2H6. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 204-727-0330.
