REID: Delmar Marshall Reid. March 8,1948 December 20, 2012. Delmar Reid passed away on December 20, 2012 at the Russell District Health Centre at the age of 64 years. Delmar was born in Russell on March 8, 1948 to John and Inez Reid. He grew up on the farm south of Silverton and attended Stratford School. In his teens, the family sold their farm, moved to Binscarth and Delmar attended high school in Russell. On August 20, 1971 Delmar married Donna McMorris. They made their home in Russell where they raised their children, Lorissa and Devin. Family was important to Delmar, and as time would allow, he enjoyed attending his children's activities. He taught his children to work hard, to finish what they started, and to take care of what they owned. Delmar was blessed with four grandchildren who were very special to him. Delmar was always a very hard worker. The majority of his career was in road and oilfield construction as a heavy equipment operator. His long term positions were with Keating Bros. Ltd. of Russell, MB (21 years), Jerry Mainil Limited of Weyburn, SK (7 years) and Russell Redi-Mix Concrete of Russell, MB since 2003. He took pride in his work and enjoyed the early mornings and the alone-time running his dozer. Delmar was a self-taught mechanic and liked overhauling and maintenance. He treated his construction equipment and company vehicles with the same care and respect as his own personal ones. Delmar enjoyed early morning coffees and acquired some of his best friends there. Those close to him will remember his smile and infectious laugh. He was quick-witted, spoke his mind and called a spade a spade. In his battle with cancer, his courage and determination carried him through each day and he was a great example to those around him. Delmar was predeceased by his parents, John and Inez Reid; sister Donna Hiller; brothers- in-law Don Bradley and Gordie Hiller; sister-in-law Esther Smart; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Verna McMorris. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Donna; daughter Lorissa (Orland) Cook of Russell; son Devin (Maria) Reid of Winnipeg; grandchildren Rylan and Reid Cook, and Aurora and Aristotle Reid; sister Shirley Bradley of Minnedosa; brothers Ron Smart of Redcliff, AB and Garth (Edith) Smart of Binscarth; aunt Rachel Rose of Minnedosa; sister-in-law Muriel (Stan) Good of Boissevain and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Interment took place at the Russell Memorial Gardens prior to the funeral service which was held on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the George P. Buleziuk Centre, with Rev. David Howell officiating. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Delmar may be made to: Russell Palliative Care, Russell District Health Centre, Bag Service #2, Russell, MB R0J 1W0 or Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
