PERSSON: Mary Marquis Persson. December 3, 1925 December 19, 2012. It is with great sadness the family of Mary Marquis Persson announces her passing on December 19, 2012 at the Dauphin Personal Care Home. Mary was born in Brandon, Manitoba to parents Ritchie and Mary (nee Campbell) Macpherson on December 3, 1925. Mary grew up on Netherhill Farm in Brandon, Manitoba. She attended Poplar Hill Country School and graduated from the Brandon Collegiate. She then received her certificate for Lab & X-Ray Technician in Brandon and was employed at the Dauphin Hospital. It was during her employment as a Lab & X-Ray technician at the Dauphin Hospital that Mary (Chick) met and later married Don Persson of Dauphin in 1948. Don's work with the insurance industry had them move to Winnipeg, Russell, the Lakehead and Calgary. Don, Mary and their three children Cam, Kathy, and Carl returned to Dauphin in 1963 were Don started his own insurance business and Mary was busy raising their three children and the family dog, Levi, with a song in the car and a shirt on the sewing machine. Don and Mary loved to travel and upon Don's retirement, they jumped into their motorhome and traveled throughout the United States, all the way to Alaska. After Don's passing, Mary continued to travel (from skiing in the Alps to giraffes in Africa) with her friend, Phylis Bell and her sisters Lil and Margaret, her brother-in-law Bob and brother Ritchie. Mary was also actively involved in the community. She was a cancer survivor and received the Canada 125 medal in "Recognition for Significant Contribution to Compatriots, Community and Canada" for her volunteer work with breast cancer survivors. She also volunteered at the Dauphin First United Church, the choir, and meals on wheels. Mary loved to golf, play bridge and curl. She was a member of the team that won the Provincial Golden Gals Championship in 1999. She leaves to mourn and cherish many fond memories, her son Cam and wife Sharon, her daughter Kathryn and husband Gene, granddaughter Jamie Ponomar, her son Carl and wife Kathryn Persson, granddaughters Brittany and Ashton Persson, brother Ritchie Macpherson, sister Margaret (Bob) Graham, brother Campbell (Mary) Macpherson, sister Shirley (Don) Ramstad, sister-in-law Mim Macpherson, sister-in-law Ingeborg Wahl, and sister-in-law Marie Goodsman, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Don in 1994, her parents Ritchie and Mary, brother Robert Macpherson, sister Lil (Gord) Williamson, sister-in-law Madge Macpherson, brother-in-law Reg (Jean) Persson, brother-in-law Birtle (Gertrude) Persson, brother-in-law Dougald (Adele) Persson, brother-in-law Robert (Laura) Persson, brother-in-law Stanley (Clara) Persson, brother-in-law Carl (Winnie) Persson, sister-in-law Florence (Roy) Houston, brother-in-laws Robert Wahl and Henry Goodsman. A memorial service will be held in April. At this time Cam and Sharon would like to thank everyone for the flowers, cards and donations to the Dauphin Community Foundation and Cancer Society in Mary's memory. A special thank you to Dr. Penrose for his excellent care of our mom.
