TULLY: Harry Warren Tully passed away peacefully on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the age of 91 in Brandon, Manitoba. Harry was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 23, 1921 to Charles Kingsley Tully and Margaret Hannah Tully (Proctor). Beloved husband of Irene (Hewitt). Loving father of Lorna Smith (Don) of Brandon and Don Tully (Louise) of Wakefield, Quebec. Cherished grandfather of Bradley and Jared Smith and Raegen and Aaron Tully, and great-grandfather of Autumn and Nia Smith. Brother of Fred, Floyd and Wes Tully. He will be missed by many other relatives and friends. Predeceased by his parents, brother Gordon and his sister Jean. Harry spent his early years on the family farm in the Poplar Heights District near Marquette, Manitoba. He attended Poplar Heights school for eight years. Harry enlisted in the army in Winnipeg in 1942 and became part of the 12th Manitoba Dragoons armoured car regiment. He served his country during World War II in France, Germany, Belgium, England and Holland. He was overseas from 1942 to 1946. Upon his return to Canada in 1946 Harry returned to southern Manitoba where he worked on various farms. In 1948 he moved to Brandon where he worked as an auto body man for 37 years at a garage which became Binkley Motors. He retired in 1985. In Brandon Harry met Irene Hewitt and they were married on November 16, 1949. Their daughter, Lorna, was born in 1950 and their son, Don, was born in 1952. They bought their first house on 3rd Street in Brandon and subsequently moved to 11th Street East. Harry loved to spend much of his time outdoors working in the yard, particularly tending his garden which produced large quantities of vegetables which he freely shared with family and friends. Harry could often be seen talking to neighbours and friends and just as often, cutting their grass, shoveling their snow and helping them in other ways. Harry and Irene spent a lot of time visiting family in Winnipeg, Saskatchewan, Ottawa, Georgetown and Vernon. After Harrys retirement they made two more extensive trips that they enjoyed very much -- a bus tour of eastern Canada and a cruise to Alaska. Harry and Irene were long-time attendees of St. Pauls and Central United Church in Brandon and were members of the Sunshine Club and the East End and South End Community Centre seniors groups. Irene and Harry enjoyed weekly day trips with friends exploring the back roads and towns of rural Manitoba. Harry and Irene moved to Lions Manor in June 2005. Irene moved to Fairview Nursing Home in November 2008. A Service of Remembrance was held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Arlene Robertson officiated. A private interment took place at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Harry may be made to a charity of ones choice. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.Arrangements with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 204-727-0330.
