MILLER: Betty Velma Miller (nee Emerson), graduated into her eternal reward Thursday, February 7, 2013. Betty was born to Gordon & Bessie Emerson on July 18, 1922 in the Hamiota District. She was the last surviving member of her family and was predeceased by her mother, Bessie (nee: Sterling); father, Gordon; brother Bruce; brother Elton (Rita); sister Lily Bushel (Russell) and beloved sister and friend, Eleanor Pearson (Alver). Betty is survived by her husband, Bernard; her children: Joy McKinnon, Hazel Schindel (Chelsea), Esther Hansen (Don), Eva Irwin (John), Merrilyn Irvine (Mark), Ruth Brugger (Rick), 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She also is survived by one-sister-in law, Marjorie Emerson, and many nieces and nephews. Betty lived in Manitoba all 90 years of her life, growing up on a farm near McConnell and completing her high school education in Hamiota. Following high school, Betty completed her teacher’s diploma in Winnipeg and taught in Arborg, Blaris and Decker, Manitoba until 1949 when she married the love of her life, Bernard Miller, from Rossburn area. Betty and Bernard bought and moved to her parent’s family farm 3 miles south of Hamiota. Betty and Bernard were married 63 years, farming together in Hamiota for the first 25, where they raised their 6 daughters. They lived in Minnedosa for 18 years and retired in Brandon, where they lived until Betty’s passing from her home at Victoria Landing. Every day of her life Betty portrayed a love for her God, family and kindness to everyone who touched her life. Even as her health declined, she never complained, and continued to praise her God. The family is so very grateful to their sister Ruth Brugger, the staff at Victoria Landing, the wonderful caregivers at Camelot Personal Care and finally to Brandon Homecare, who gave Betty such amazing care. She was blessed beyond measure to have been surrounded by such kind and compassionate people during her last months on this earth. “She has fought the good fight, she has finished the race, she has kept the faith.” She is finally home!
