MITCHELL: After 99 years of a wonderful life, Jean Mitchell passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Assiniboine Centre, in Brandon. Jean was born on September 11, 1913 to Joseph and Charlotte Warren in Rivers, Manitoba. This was the same year Rivers was incorporated as a town. She was so looking forward to the 100 year celebrations. Jean was the youngest of five children. The family moved to Blackpool, England in 1914, where her father enlisted in the British Army. After the war, the family returned to Rivers and took up residence on Fifth Avenue. She attended school in Rivers. On September 15, 1936, Jean married her best friend and the love of her life, Roy Mitchell. They resided in Rivers until 1963 when they moved to Winnipeg and later Brandon. She was an active member in St. James Womens Auxiliary while in Rivers and later in St. Georges in Brandon. She was also a member of Rivers Rebekah Lodge. While in Rivers she curled at the Rivers Curling Club and in later years never missed a curling game on television. The joys of Jeans life were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren and she loved them all dearly. She could tell you all their names from the oldest to the youngest. She had a passion for knitting and until her eyesight started to fail her, she loved to knit sweaters for them all. Mom and Dad loved to travel and after Dad retired they took trips to New Zealand, Australia, Scotland and England to visit several relatives. They had also enjoyed trips to the east and west coasts of Canada visiting all the family. Jean is survived by son Bob (Gwen) of Kingston, Ontario; daughter Lorna Simmons of Brandon, and son Glen (Helen) of Brandon; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, all living across Canada from Nova Scotia to British Columbia, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Roy; her parents; step mother; two sisters and two brothers. A private burial service will take place at the Rivers Cemetery with a memorial service held at a later date. A special thanks to all the staff at Sokol Supportive Housing, Dr. Large and staff of the Western Medical Centre, and the third floor nursing staff at the Brandon Assiniboine Centre for all their kindness and care they gave to Mum.
