NEVIN: Mollie Nevin (nee Demler) September 11, 1912 - February 18, 2013. Dearly loved, Mollie will be greatly missed by family and a wide circle of friends. Predeceased by her husband Cecil, her son Demler, and daughter-in-law Trish, Mollie is survived by her daughters Craigey, Eryl (Denny), and Elvi (Brian), grandchildren Carolyn (Jacques), Beth (Steve), Geoff (Megan), Christina, Cynthia, Darren, Sean, Syreeta (Scott), Tini, Ceci (Matt), Paco (Talin), great grandchildren Natalie, Justin, Alexander, Matthew, Alexandria, Liam, Emma and Avery, and special honorary family members Brian and Phyllis Lawrence, "granddaughter" Elvi (Ryan), "great grandchildren" Hayley and Rylan, "grandson" Denny, "granddaughter" Sandrina, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Mollie was one of 16 children. She was born and raised in Starbuck, Manitoba. She moved to Winnipeg as a young teenager to attend Kelvin High School while working as a domestic for a Winnipeg family. Upon graduation, Mollie attended Normal School where she obtained her teacher's certificate, but her first job was as a cook at a northern mining camp. Mollie worked hard her whole life no matter the undertaking. At the age of 55, Mollie accepted a position as matron of the McKay Residential School in Dauphin, a position held until retirement at age 65. Mollie was never idle. She gave time to her community, charities, clubs, lodges, friends, school and work. Mollie still found time to cook, bake bread, garden, sew, knit, crochet, read, write, paint, carve, build playhouses, and make costumes. She even found time to relax with a rum and coke. Mollie's cottage at Clear Lake, known as Mollie's Reach, was a magnet for family and friends (and friends of friends)! This was Mom's domain and pride and joy. Mollie could be found, every morning, sitting on her deck with coffee in hand greeting and waving to all who passed her cabin. Everyone was welcomed. She loved Clear Lake and was a regular volunteer at the Pinewood Museum. For the last few years, Mollie lived at Fairview. The wonderful 3rd floor staff cared for Mom with great affection and respect. She was treated like family. Thanks to all of you and special thanks to Darlene. If friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Mollie to"Restoring the Glory" the 100 Year Old Dome Building Project. Provincial Ex of Manitoba, 115- 10th St., Brandon, MB. R7A 7C5.
