McCONNELL: Wendel Ross. It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Wendel McConnell, who passed away suddenly at the age of 53 on March 5, 2013 with family by his side. Lovingly remembered by surviving family: Wife: Bev; Children: Jaclyn & Tori; Parents: Red and Ruth McConnell, Katie Horn; Brothers & Sisters: Kim (Carolyn) McConnell, David (Kimberly) Horn, Carolyn (Len) Jones; Nieces & Nephews: Jill, Mark, Ross, Veronica, Holly; Predeceased by his Father in Law Jack Horn. Honorary Pallbearers: Jeff MacDonald, Norm Janssen, Brad Lumsden, Kerry Lowe, Roland Rasmussen, Gord Kowalchuk and Craig Lobban. Wendel was born and raised in Hamiota where community, 4-H and sports shaped his personality and career. During his youth, all sports, especially hockey and baseball were a big part of Wendel’s life. He continued his passion for sports as a devote fan of the Boston Bruins, Winnipeg Jets, Cincinnati Reds, Toronto Argonauts and the UND Fighting Sioux. In 1980 Wendel graduated from the University of Manitoba as a proud Aggie. Before joining Investors Group he held many sales and leadership positions in the agricultural chemical and pork industries. Wendel joined Investors Group in 2000. In his job as Executive Consultant, he has received many awards, including setting a national record for first year business that still stands today. Wendel was consistently one of Investors Group’s top performers. He was driven to create great relationships with all his clients, seeing them as friends and believing it was important to always do what was right for them. Wendel and Bev married in 1992. He immediately embraced the role of stepfather with Jaclyn. Tori was born in 1995. Wendel adored her and she was the apple of his eye. Mac, the ‘four legged human’ completed the family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Immanuel Pentecostal Church 955 Wilkes Avenue. Wendel was an avid promoter of the Heart and Stroke Foundation and had a deep love for his home town Hamiota where he grew up playing the sports that he loved. It is for these reasons we ask that in lieu of flowers, donations please be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3L 9Z9 or Hamiota District Sports Complex Memorial Fund, Box 521, Hamiota, R0M 0T0.
