GROVES: Fay Alvina Groves (Bates) nee Piett June 14, 1926-March 22, 2013. With her family by her side, Fay passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013 in the Neepawa Hospital at the age of 86 years. Predeceased by husband, Stan Bates, in 1992, Brother Orville, Her Parents Vince and Ann nee Thompson Piett. Mom is survived by her husband Lloyd Groves, her sons Brian Bates (JoAnne), Don (Jeannie), grandson Chris (Heidi), great-grandson Nathan, great-granddaughter Kira, sisters-in-law Bernice and Marg. Mom was born in Neepawa in 1926 and moved with her family to Pipestone, Manitoba where she received most of her schooling. After a short time in Winnipeg she returned to Neepawa in 1945 to live with her dad. There she met Stan, fell in love, and started a family. The family moved to Dryden, Ontario in 1956 and lived there for 33 years. The lure of Manitoba beckoned and mom and dad returned in 1989.Mom was a very loving and warm person. She loved to socialize with her friends especially her dearest and closest friends especially her dearest and closest friends Elsie, Lorna, Doreen and Dot. Mom lovingly cultivated and maintained those friendship for over 65 years which is a rare and special thing. Mom loved curling and spent many hours playing bridge and even Sunday looked forward to watching Lawrence Welk. To those who knew mom well she will be remembered for a sweet innocence and naiveté which brought great laughter to herself and those around her. It was this sweetness about her that everyone will remember most. But she was also a fighter and she showed great strength during the last 4 years when she battled many medical hardships. A celebration of Fay’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 3013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Neepawa United Church. A special thank you to the staff and Dr. Poettker at the Neepawa Hospital, (especially Cynthia, Ruth, Tara and Paul) and a special thank you to Elsie and Kelly Bell who selflessly gave so much help to mom in her times of need.
