ROBERTS: James Arthur Roberts (Jim). It is with great sadness that we announce Jim passed away January 18, 2013 at 75 years of age at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. He was born May 21, 1937. He is fondly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Sherrill, daughters Pam (Dave) Haithwaite, Lisa (Howard) Burton, and Kristina Roberts. Grandchildren, Brianna and Kyle Burton, Roman Roberts, Kelsey Neudorf, and Wesley Haithwaite. Also his brother Garth (Maralyne) and James Roberts, Ottawa, ON, Allan (Jen) Brooke, Chelsey Roberts, Kitchener, ON. Jim was predeceased by his mother, Charlotte (1978) and his father Sidney (1970) of Brandon, MB. Jim was employed at the Brandon Sun for 38 years as a Journeyman Pressman and some years as a Foreman. He retired when he was 58 years old, and enjoyed many years of retirement. Jim enjoyed trying new hobbies like photography, fishing, building and making hunting knives for family and friends. He also tried new ways of gardening, becoming interested in growing giant pumpkins and tomatoes. We went to the Roland Fair and he competed in the pumpkin and tomato categories. Although his pumpkin wasn’t the biggest he was proud of his 743 lb. pumpkin and his 1st place 4 lb. tomato. Jim belonged to the Brandon Wildlife Association for many years measuring deer heads at “Big Buck” Nite and helping out with other positions, one being the “Fish Derby” at Rivers. Jim’s favorite pastime was hunting, which he passed on his knowledge and skills to his grandsons. His most proud moment was winning the 3rd prize trophy in Manitoba for his drop-tine deer head (non-typical) in 1980. A Come and Go Tea luncheon to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at Brockie Donovan Funeral Home in the George Brockie Fellowship Centre (south side), 332-8th Street, Brandon, Sat., May 11, 2013, 1-4 p.m.
