HI EAGLE: Samuel Jeffery (Wanbdi Watakpena – Charging Eagle). Jeff Hi Eagle, 41, of Whiteriver, Arizona died April 22, 2013 at his home in the Cradleboard District of the White Mountain Apache Reservation. He was born in Virden, Manitoba, on February 13, 1972. He is the only son of Phillip Hi Eagle and Rose Marie (Eastman) McKay. He was educated at the Clearfield Job Corp in Clearfield, Utah where he studied to be a Security Officer. He later studied at Utah Community College where he focused on Criminal Justice. In 2001, he married his companion of six years, LaMonica (Gordon) HiEagle. They have four children: Ryan, Duran, Sisilly, and Carmelo (adopted son). Jeff served and protected the people of the White Mountain Apache Tribe for 15 years; during this time, he was employed by both the White Mountain Apache Housing Authority as a Security Guard and the Whiteriver Police Department as Police Officer, Detention Officer, Dispatcher, and a Transport Officer. He was also previously employed as a Slot Technician at Hondah Casino. He leaves behind his beloved wife, LaMonica; his sons, Ryan, Duran, and Carmello; and daughter, Sisilly. He also leaves his father, Phillip (Faye) Hi Eagle of Virden, Manitoba; his mother, Rose Marie (Edward) McKay of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, Manitoba; and two sisters, Terri Hi Eagle and Sheree (Desmond) Blacksmith of Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. He also leaves several Aunties: Linda, Viola, Barbara, Clara and Maryann, Uncles: Joseph and Gus (Buffalo), cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jeff was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Frank and Rosaline Eastman and paternal grandparents George and Mabel Hi Eagle of Canupawakpa Dakota Nation, Manitoba. He leaves many adopted brothers that he met in his lifetime both in Canada and the United States. His body will be brought back to his residence at 7105 N. Cradleboard Ave. on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. A funeral home service will be held at his residence in Cradleboard on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Co-Pastor Mike Lupe presiding. The Hi Eagle and Eastman Families will be holding a Traditional Service at the Canupawakpa Community Complex on the Canupawakpa Dakota Nation, Manitoba to honor Jeff’s memory on Saturday, May 4, 2013 starting at 11:00 a.m. A prayer service will be held at 1:00 p.m. All friends and relatives of Jeff Hi Eagle (Wanbdi Watakpena - Charging Eagle) are invited to attend.
