SMITH: Donald Keith Smith, of Brandon, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the age of 76. Born in Boissevain, Manitoba on October 6, 1936, Don lived in Brandon all his life raising seven children: Calvin Smith of Lethbridge, Alberta, Connie (Curt) Tomlinson of Nanaimo, BC, Darlene (Steve) Bullee of Creston, BC, Rennie (Ian) Barclay of Calgary, Alberta, Caury (Marty) Hurst of Langley, BC, Jason (Amy) Smith of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Dana (Carla) Smith of Brandon. He made many friends over the years from his time with Canada Grocers, T. Bass & Company, Scott National. Don co-owned J.L.A. foodstore with his brother Lloyd. Later he worked at the Colonial Inn and managed Brandon Gardens apartment block. His laughter and great sense of humour will be greatly missed by all who crossed his path. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Judy in 2010; mother Eva and father Herbert; along with his brothers, Joe, Lloyd and Gordon and sister Margaret. Don leaves behind to mourn his loss along with his children, thirteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers Murray and Robert; sisters Elsie, Kay, Jean, Dorothy and Marie as well as numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. At Don’s request, there will not be a Funeral service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. We wish to extend a special thank you to the staff at Hillcrest Personal Care Home. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Don may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba – Westman Region, Unit 4B – 457 9th Street, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 1K2.
