TATARYN (née EPP): Vera Tataryn, age 84, of Brandon, MB, formerly of Winnipeg, MB, died peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2013, at Fairview Home, with three of her children by her side. Vera was born July 22, 1928, in Winnipeg to Gerhard and Luise Epp. She was the eldest of four sisters. After a brief residence in Niverville, MB, the family moved to the area near Petersfield, MB to homestead and farm with some of Vera's grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. As a teenager, Vera moved to Winnipeg and attended Kelvin High School. She attended normal school and taught in Winkler, MB, where she first met Paul Tataryn, whom she married at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church in Winnipeg in 1954. Vera and Paul lived briefly in StBoniface and eventually settled in East Kildonan. Vera was by this time working for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, where she enjoyed working for many years. She and Paul became members of John Black Memorial United Church, a fellowship that supported and sustained Vera for nearly five decades and which she came to describe as "family". Vera and Paul had two children, John Paul born in 1959 and Louise Joy born in 1961. In 1990 and 1992, they became grandparents to first Christopher and then Cameron, sons of John and Shelley. Vera lost her beloved husband Paul in 1997. In the last seven years of her life, Vera moved to Brandon, MB, to be near her son and his family. Vera is survived by son John Tataryn (Shelley) of Brandon, MB; daughter Joy Tataryn (Ellee Ancheim) of Aldergrove, BC; grandsons Christopher Tataryn (Jennifer Stadler) and Cameron Tataryn (Becca Numrich) of Brandon, MB; sisters Louise Thomas (formerly Thiessen) of Winnipeg and Katherine Booth (John) of Surrey, BC; brother-in-law Henry Schroeder of Winnipeg (Erika); sisterinlaw Edith Tataryn of Victoria, BC; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families. Vera was predeceased by her husband Paul Tataryn (1997); daughterinlaw Catalina De La Cuesta (2003); sister Edith Schroeder (2002); sisterinlaw Maria Kicak (née Tataryn) (1966); and brother inlaw Walter Tataryn (2005). A memorial service for Vera will be held at John Black Memorial United Church at 898 Henderson Highway, Winnipeg, MB, on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. to be followed by a reception at the church. Vera's cremated remains will be interred with her husband's at a private ceremony. Donations in Vera's name may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
