SCHILTROTH: Grant Schiltroth was born in Red Deer, Alta., Feb. 17, 1952. He was the second child of George and Kay (Riddell) Schiltroth. He had an older sister, Twila, and younger brother, Gary. In 1962 Grant moved to Gainsborough, Sask. with his Mom and Gary. He thrived on being a Gainsborough kid, spending hours at the creek, working at Dellows store, being a big brother and enjoying being a small town kid. Sundays were often spent with the Riddell cousins and families in Pierson, MB. Grant graduated from high school in Carnduff, SK in 1970 and made his way to Saskatoon to attend U of S in the college of pharmacy. It was at university that he met Nancy Pattison and they were married almost 40 years ago, June 30, 1973. Following his graduation in 1975, Grant and Nancy moved to Fort Smith, NWT where he began his pharmacy career. In 1976 he was offered a position at Morrows Pharmacy in Reston, Man. Reston seemed to choose Grant and Nancy, and they decided to put down roots there. They bought the business in 1978, naming it Reston Drugs and in 1981 built a new store. Four rental units were added in 1986, Reston Place. Grant loved pharmacy interacting with his customers, learning about new drugs, always willingly on call. He most especially enjoyed being part of Southwest Drug Group a buying group of pharmacists who became his lifelong friends. Of all the roles he played, the one he enjoyed the most was being a dad. They were blessed with three fine sons Kurt (1977), Kent (1980) and Kyle (1981). He loved their sports, 4H, and all the things boys do. He always looked forward to the parade of friends coming through the house. In 2000, the delight of his life, granddaughter Keara, was born and he became a Bumpa. Three lovely ladies found their way into his heart Sherri & Cole, Kari and Amy. Grant loved the outdoors and always looked forward to the annual canoe trip on May long weekend. This year was the 31st annual on the Gainsborough Creek. Grant & Nancy loved to travel and in the past nine months they travelled to Kitchener, Ont. for the Blues Fest, a week in Nova Scotia and in January a trip to Colombia where they caught a boat down the Amazon River. Grant passed away suddenly on May 27, 2013 with his family gathered around him. He leaves to mourn, his immediate family; his brother Gary & Barb, nephews Robert & Dean of Reston; niece Shelly & Herb Boomhower, Lindsay of Red Deer; his Riddell cousins; Nancys family, the Pattisons and his Reston Drugs family. If friends so desire, a donation may be made to the Reston & Area Foundation, Reston, R0M 1X0, or the charity of your choice.
