RAISON: John Arthur Raison of Wawanesa, Manitoba passed away on June 10, 2013 at the Wawanesa Personal Care Home. John was born September 26, 1922 in the Tenterfield District, to Joseph and Isabella Raison. He was the second youngest of a family of eight. He received his education at the one-room Tenterfield School and after completing Grade 8, he worked on the family farm. John married Cleo (Cove) Laird on August 26, 1972, and became a father to seven girls. Dad and Mom farmed until 2001 on the SW 16-7-17 W in Rural Municipality of Oakland. Dad loved farming and when he wasn’t putting the crop in or taking it off, he could always be found tinkering away in his shop fixing something, whether it was farm machinery, garden tractors or making something for the grandkids. After retiring from farming, Mom and Dad moved to Wawanesa. Mom passed away later that year, and Dad continued to reside in Wawanesa. In 2011, Dad moved to the Wawanesa Personal Care Home. He is lovingly remembered by daughters Sheila Cline (Brad) Jena and Brett Cline; Donna Gullett (Larry) Kirby, Tyson and Laird Gullett; Heather Cline (Perry) Regan Cline, Norine Miller (Monte) Lauren, Alec and Noah Miller; Cheryl Laird (Trevor Street) Jordan, Riley and Aaryn Perreault-Laird; Virginia Laird (Myles Lambkin) Leah and Parker Lambkin; Tami Laird (Danny Gosselin), Anais and Carling Gosselin. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In his younger years he played baseball (pitched) out at Skookum Lake. He played in a band (played a mean harmonica by ear) as well as enjoying long car rides and trips out west. John served as a Counsellor for the Oakland Municipality and as council representative on the Wawanesa Hospital Board. More recently John loved going to bingo and Belcourt with his dear friends and enjoyed reminiscing about days gone by. A Celebration of John’s Life will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the Wawanesa United Church, with Rev. Harvey Hurren officiating. Interment to follow in Wawanesa Cemetery.
