HANS GUSTAV CARLSONWith heavy hearts and profound sadness we announce the passing of Dad on June 27, 2013 at the Grandview Health Care Centre after a lengthy battle with cancer. Dad was a very positive person and kept this attitude up right until the very end. Dad was born in Trosa Sweden on April 9, 1934. Dad and his parents and two sisters immigrated to Canada in December 1951 when Dad was 17 years old. They came to Canada on a transatlantic voyage on the MS Stockholm. They initially lived in Lundar in a hunter’s log cabin with no electricity or running water however Dad talked so fondly of those times with the meals that Grandma cooked and the fun they had playing games and telling jokes. Dad became a Canadian citizen once in Canada and loved living in Canada but his heart always remained in Sweden. He adored his family very much and in the early days worked at any type of work no matter what in the worst weather to support his girls! He loved anything Swedish and especially his Volvo’s!! He was a “Swede” through and through! Dad’s ultimate passion was music and playing his accordion. He loved all kind of music but absolutely loved jazz music. Dad loved his yard, his garden and animals/nature. He loved his sweets and was known as the cookie monster. Dad thoroughly enjoyed coffee in the morning in the sun with Mom and of course a beer or two at happy hour!! Dad is survived by his wife Beverlee and his three daughters Shannon, Kim and Krista (Marc), his sister Yvonne (Eugene), sister Birgitta (Larry), and his grandchildren Jeremy, Courtney, Shalyn, Sara, Justin and Alysha and numerous nephews and nieces. Dad will be dearly missed by many close friends and the musical community which he greatly enriched. A celebration of Dad’s life will be held on July 27, 2013 at the Gilbert Plains Legion at 6:30 p.m. There will be an open mic and “Jam for Hans” that evening. All musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments and partake in the celebration. In lieu of flowers we would welcome donations in Dad’s memory to the Grandview Foundation with funds allocated to the Grandview Hospital where Dad received the best care we could ever imagine!!
