POMEROY: Andrew Gearance Pomeroy, formerly of Alexander, MB passed away peacefully on July 13th at Hillcrest Place. He leaves behind his daughter Cheryl (Brian Johnston), daughter-in-law Judy, four grandchildren Kimberley, Trevor (Michelle), Heather (James), and Jana (Bruce) and his two cherished great-grandchildren, Riley and Brody. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara, his son, Jim, his brother Allan, and his sister, Peggy. Andy was born February 14, 1919 in Gilroy, SK. He began helping his father farm at a young age. In 1941 he volunteered to serve in the Air Force becoming an Airframe Mechanic. While in service, he met the love of his life, Barbara Moir and they were married in 1945. Soon after his discharge, they moved to Alexander to farm with his father. Within two years, they had decided to farm independently nearby. Andy and Barbara were active participants in the Alexander Community where they enjoyed many friendships cultivated over 45 years. They raised what Andy called a gentlemans family two children, Cheryl and Jim. After retiring, they enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, watching sports such as Jims ball games, camping with the River Rats, attending Booster Club Dances. All of his life Andy made good friends which continued after moving to Brandon and becoming involved in activities at Seniors for Seniors, in Victoria Landing Seniors Residence and lastly in Hillcrest Place. He had a wonderful interest in meeting people which kept him enjoying life day by day. A memorial service will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th St. Brandon on Friday, July 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Andys family invites you to join them at a reception afterwards at Central United Church which will be followed by interment at Alexander Cemetery. If friends desire to make a donation in Andys memory, the family suggests either the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, Box 3, Grp 520, RR#5, Brandon or Brandon Seniors for Seniors, 311 Park Avenue East, Brandon. Andy was actively involved with both of these organizations over many years and was fully supportive of their roles in the community. Much gratitude is felt by the family for the loving care provided to Andy and the family members present during his final days in Hillcrest Place. The compassionate respectful care was exceptional. Cheryl and the family also wish to thank those who called or visited with Andy during his last year when he was less able to get out into the community for he dearly loved to have a good chat and laugh.
