SPENCE: Darren John Spence, born May 19, 1975 and his sons, Gage Michael Spence, born April 8, 2002 and Logan John Laurence Spence, born July 9, 2003, all passed away together on February 10, 2013. Darren was born in Winnipeg, MB, on May 19, 1975 to Lorna and Edward Spence of Waskada, MB. He attended Waskada School from kindergarten to grade 12 where he graduated. Throughout his school years, Darren enjoyed playing both baseball and hockey. After graduation, he started working on an oil rig in Lethbridge, AB, eventually progressing to a new position with Alberta’s Precision Oil Company for two years. Darren’s next adventure was to explore the field of trucking. He even purchased his own truck, which took him from coast to coast throughout North America meeting new people and making friends everywhere he went. But home was always Waskada, and he came back to work with his dad on the family farm. As he got older, Darren developed a passion to start flying. He started, took his solo flight in Brandon Flying Club, and finished getting a certificate on March 18, 1993. From there, he took his commercial pilot’s license, finished, and got his certificate on February 21, 1998. At this point, Darren started his spraying career, which he loved dearly. Darren went to the Canadian Aerial Applicators (CAA) convention in Ottawa, Canada and the Savannah, Georgia Convention in the U.S. and really enjoyed each one. He was Vice President of the CAA and was to go on to be President of the Canadian organization, but that was not to be. Gage was born in Brandon General Hospital on April 8, 2002. He took his kindergarten to grade 5 in Waskada School. He loved to skate, so he practised every night from 6:30 – 9:00. He had a passion for hockey and was a good hockey player. He played with Waskada and Pierson Hockey Atoms, and every other year he played with the Deloraine Hockey Team because of the age difference. His passionate goal was to one day play with Team Canada. Logan was born in Brandon General Hospital on July 9, 2003. He took his kindergarten to grade 4 in Waskada School. He loved to watch TV and was quite a thinker. He also enjoyed playing on the computer and was good at what he did. He loved to play hockey with Pierson and Waskada Atoms, and played every year with them. I think Logan would have joined the military as he loved everything about it. He wanted to be like his step-dad, Murray. Gage and Logan were very close brothers and were always together, whether it was playing hockey or playing ball, and Darren was very proud of all the boys’ accomplishments. Left to mourn Darren are his two daughters; Kaylie, who lives in Shilo, and Ariana, who lives in Montana; Mom and Dad, Lorna and Edward Spence; sister, Debra Wiltshire; nephew, RJ Wiltshire; niece, Taylor Wiltshire; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many, many people he knew from everywhere far and wide including friends and neighbours.
