SHELVEY: Eva Phoebe Elizabeth Shelvey was born to Ernest and Elizabeth Hales on December 24, 1904 at Rapid City, Manitoba, shortly after they immigrated to Canada from Kent, England. At the age of 22 she was united in marriage to William Halhad Shelvey on December 29, 1926 in her parental home. During their years of marriage they raised a family of seven children, during which they farmed, lived a life of dedication of strong Christian faith and hard work. Around the early 1980’s Eva and Halhad moved into the Lawson Lodge in Brandon, and then in March of 2004, Eva moved into the Valleyview Care facility. On July 19, 2013 at 6:00 a.m., at the age of 108 years and 7 months Eva quietly slipped in to arms of the Jesus, the One she loved. Diane Denny, her niece, was close by. Eva leaves a strong lasting legacy to her family and close friends. Family members include Ernest and Bertha Shelvey; Eileen Hall; Nancy Shelvey; Bernice and Ervin Fuhrmann; Percy and Shirley Shelvey and Roy and Judy Shelvey. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Halhad on June 22, 1983; a son, Elmer Shelvey; step-daughter, Muriel McMullen; daughter-in-law, Louise Shelvey; sons-in-law Hubert Hall and Robert McMullen. Eva's father, Ernest Hales died on February 21, 1946, her mother Elizabeth Hales on October 2, 1965 and two sisters Winnifred Cornish on May 22, 1985 and Ivy Cornish on June 19, 2000. Many memories of Eva will be remembered by 15 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren and 9 great, great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces, plus a whole host of friends and the doctors, nurses and aides in the Valleyview Care Home. We can all honestly say “We love you, Eva, and we will not soon forget you!” A family graveside service was held at the Humesville Cemetery on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 with Funeral Service held at Calvary Temple, 620-34th Street at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Gary Jennings officiated. A time of fellowship and refreshment followed the ceremony. Flowers are gratefully declined. Special “Thanks” to the Valleyview Care Centre Nurses, Aides, Staff and Dr. Egan. Eva died under their efficient, loving and capable hands.
