SKINNER: Dr. James McIntosh Skinner. After a brief illness, Jim passed away suddenly at home on August 1st. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Sheila Kingham. He will be dearly missed by his daughter Karen (Mohammad), stepdaughters, Leslie (John), Lisa (Rick) and Lynn (Fernando) and in-laws Bruce and Gwyneth Kingham. Jim loved his grandchildren Laura, Ryan, Drew, Kyle, Marlow, Anthea, Stephen, Kathryn and David. They all have fond memories of curling up on the couch watching Tales of Terror for Tiny Tots with him. Born in Peterhead, Scotland on March 30, 1933, Jim immigrated to Canada with wife Hazel and daughter in 1965. He was a respected professor of history and film at Brandon University from 1967-1993. A passionate film buff, Jim was the Director of the Brandon Film Festival from 1969-1989 and film columnist for the Brandon Sun. After his marriage to Sheila and retirement from BU, they moved to Victoria where he lectured sessionally at the University of Victoria. He was a member of the local organist society and president of the Victoria Secular Humanist Association. Jim was lucky to have enjoyed good health, hobbies and travel throughout his life. Although not always demonstrative (in a manner consistent with his Scottish reserve), Jim truly loved and cherished his wonderful circle of family, friends and colleagues. Close friends are invited to join the family for an informal open house between 1:00-5:00 p.m. on August 17th at 5-981 Fir Tree Glen in Victoria, BC.
