KIRBY: Geoffrey H. D. Kirby 1921-2013. The family of Geoff Kirby sadly announce his passing on Sept. 2nd. Dad was born in England January 2nd, 1921. He moved to Canada with the RAF and was stationed in Weyburn and then Carberry. It was at this time he met Mom (Mollie) and they were married in England in 1947. They lived in Brandon where he was employed by the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission. He played drums for the Syncopators for many years, making many friends. He took a break from the band as they had a young family, Elaine and twins Brent and Cheryl. In 1957 they took a transfer with the MLCC to Melita and enjoyed living and raising their family there. Dad was soon very involved in Kinsmen, Legion, School Board, Toastmasters, Chamber of Commerce but found time to play in a band. In 1978 Mom and Dad retired to B.C. and built a home on Pender Island. They enjoyed living on Pender and made many new friends. Dad enjoyed helping build a few homes there, walking with the walking club, singing in the choir and also found time to play in a band. Mom died in 2003 and Dad moved to Victoria in 2008. He enjoyed living in Oak Bay Lodge and always looked forward to family and friends visiting. He is survived by his daughters Elaine Woodburn (Jeff) of Victoria; Cheryl Stewart (Jim) of Melita; and son Brent and Tannis Kirby of Pender Island as well as grandchildren Rebecca Woodburn, Darren and Becky Stewart, Geoff and Jaymin Kirby.
