SNOWDON: With sadness the family of Gerald Robert David Snowdon announces that his death occurred on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Born October 22, 1937 at East St. Paul, Manitoba, Gerald was raised by Robert and Martha Snowdow where he resided on the family farm located between Oak River and Rivers, Manitoba. Gerald attended Medina School in the Blanchard Municipality. In March 1954, Gerald furthered his education and attended Agriculture College in Brandon. He then received his Heavy Duty Mechanic License September 19, 1977. Always one to keep busy, Gerald worked on the farm, the pipeline, did land clearing and heavy duty equipment repairs. Gerald was an active member of the Lions Club Oak River/Hamiota, Rivers United Church and the Pioneer Power and Equipment Club. He was also a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, where he achieved 45 years of dedicated service. In his spare time, Gerald was a collector of Antique Crawler Tractors. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years of marriage, Mary (nee Martens); son Robert (Tanis) Snowdon, grandsons Aaron Snowdon and Ashlin Snowdon, granddaughter Ainsley (Jonathan) Yamashita; son Jamie (Rene) Snowdon, grandson Ryker Snowdon; daughter Cindy (Darcy) Chateau, granddaughter Stacy (Josh) Bileski, great-grandson Kiefer, granddaughter Crystal Stauch, great-granddaughter Zoey, granddaughter Amanda (Bryan) Bechard, great-grandsons Noah, Austin and Avery; son Michael Snowdon. Also surviving are: Gerald’s birth mother Vera Joseph; sister Linda Borne; step-sisters June Buell and Barbara (Richard) Riley; step-brother Bill (Kathy) Joseph; mother-in-law Barbara Martens; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Jack (Maria) Martens, Anne (Ron) Sawatzky, Bill (Dianne) Martens, Ed (Gail) Martens, Barb (Herman) Martens, Jim Martens, Ron (Erin) Martens as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Martha Snowdon, father-in-law Peter Martens, brothers-in-law Henry Borne and Paul Buell. The Funeral Ceremony was held at Central United Church on Friday, November 29, 2013. Rev. Lydia Glawson officiated. Pallbearers were Walter Froese, George Froese, Brian Borne, Herman Martens, Jake Unrau and Vern Davidson. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery.
