WOODS: Thomas William Woods, formerly of Sprucewoods, passed away with family by his side at Dinsdale Personal Care Home on Thursday, November 21, 2013. Born in Rivers, Manitoba on June 26, 1927, Tom was raised on a farm in Kenton, MB and was the eldest of seven children. He attended school in Kenton, MB. Tom met Margaret, his loving wife of 63 years, in Rivers in 1948 and they were married in 1950. Tom began his working career in Snowlake, MB working with Manitoba Hydro. Upon moving to Rivers, he was a butcher at Quick Freeze for almost four years, then became the milkman for Duncans Dairy while farming at the same time. Moving to Shilo, Tom worked for Shilo Merchandising C.N. Delivery. He bought a small business in 1954 near Shilo and over the years developed and expanded his business from gravel to concrete to excavating. Tom continued to grow his company, eventually to be known as Sprucewoods Contracting Ltd. As a primary land owner in the Sprucewoods area, Tom sold off sections of land, eventually leading to the greatly expanded community as it is known today. Tom eventually retired in 1990, after 36 years! Tom was an active member of the Shilo Snowdrifters, the Shilo Wildlife Society and Good Sam. An avid snowmobiler, Tom also enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing and travelling. Tom will be lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret, son Brian (Bev) of Port Coquitlam, BC, son Kelly (Fe) of Winnipeg, MB, son Dennis of Edmonton, AB, daughter Sherron (Paul) Corrigan of Calgary, AB, daughter Patty (Barry) McLeod of Kenora, ON, and daughter Donna Quinn of Selkirk, MB. Eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren also survive as well as siblings: Doug (Rose) Woods of Burnaby, BC, Stella McKenzie of Calgary, AB, Mary (Gordon) Brown of Rimby, AB, Garth (Doreen) Woods and Shirley Chudly of Brandon, MB. He was predeceased by son David Woods and brother Donald Woods. The Ceremony to Celebrate Toms life was held at Memories Chapel on Saturday, November 30, 2013. Rev. Barbara Jardine officiated.
