ROSE: Allan Maxwell. The death of Allan Rose, beloved husband of Anne and father to Carol Harvey (Stuart), Beth Robertson (Rob) and David Rose (Elizabeth) occurred peacefully at Hillcrest Place, Brandon, MB on December 11, 2013. Allan was the firstborn of David (Mack) Rose and Mary Rose. He was born at the home farm in Bunclody, MB on September 30, 1920. His formal education took place in Bunclody School followed by studies at Brandon Collegiate. As a boy, he loved sports and music, playing baseball and hockey and the violin and saxophone. He joined the RCAF in 1942 and was trained as a wireless mechanic, stationed at Montréal, and later transferred back to Winnipeg as an instructor. Then he was posted to the Northwest Air Command in Edmonton, Watson Lake, and Whitehorse. On his discharge in 1945, he returned home to the family farm and the woman he loved, Anne Marshall. All of Allan’s relationships were strong, however, nothing compared to the one he developed with the little blond girl who had become his friend when she moved to Bunclody in Grade 3. He married Anne in 1946 and they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in April, 2013. Together, they successfully navigated their way through the challenges of raising three children while meeting the ever-present demands of the farm and evolving times. Allan and Anne loved farming and farmed until 2000 when they retired and moved to Brandon. Allan inherited a strong work ethic and commitment to community service. Despite the demands and pressures of the farm, he also served as President of the Manitoba Stock Growers Association, President of the Brandon Toastmasters Club, Reeve of the RM of Whitewater for 9 years, Chair of the Farm Lands Protection Board, member of the Manitoba Water Commission and President of the Souris Minor Hockey League. In addition, Dad served as his brother Bob’s campaign chair when Bob Rose was elected as MLA in 1990. Anne and Allan enjoyed wonderful extended family gatherings, community events and vacations –to continental Europe, the Rose Castle in Scotland, the Barbados, Hawaii and across Canada and the United States. He took much pleasure from these trips, but his heart was always in Bunclody. Allan was predeceased by his brother, Bob Rose (Lois) in 2000. He is survived by his wife Anne, his children: Carol Harvey (Stuart), Beth Robertson (Rob) and David Rose (Elizabeth), his grandchildren: Graham Harvey (Connie), Jamie Harvey (Patricia), Danica Rose (Josh), Sheena Rogers (Kyle), Christina Rose (Oeloff de Meyer) and his great-grandchildren: Lucas and Jessica Harvey, Marlow and Maude Toth. Also left to mourn are his sisters Shirley Rose, Margy Chapman and sisters-in-law Lois Rose, Jean Young, Shirley Yacyshen (Tony) and many nieces and nephews. A service to honour Allan took place at Memories Chapel on Tuesday, December 17, 2013. Private family interment will take place at a later date. For friends who so desire, donations in memory of Allan may be made to a charity of their choice. Should you go first and I remainTo walk the road alone,I’ll stay in memories’ garden dearWith happy days we’ve known.Alone I’ll watch our roses redAnd see the lilacs blue,Then in the fall when brown leaves fall,I’ll catch a glimpse of you.Should you go first and I remainFor battles to be fought,Each thing you’ve touched along the wayWill be a hallowed spot.I’ll hear your voice, I’ll see your smileThough blindly I will grope,The memory of your helping handWill bring me on with hope.Should you go first and I remainTo finish with the scroll,No lengthening shadows shall creep inTo make this life seem droll. We’ve known so much of happiness,We’ve had our cups of joy,And mem’ry is one gift of GodThat nothing can destroy.Should you go first and I remainOne thing I’d have you do.Walk slowly down that long lone roadFor soon I’ll follow you.I’ll want to know each step you take,That I may walk the sameFor some day down that lonely roadYou’ll hear me call your name.Author UnknownExpressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.
