RUTHERFORD: It is with great sadness that we announce that our dear wife, sister, mother, and grandmother, Betty Rutherford, passed away suddenly at her home, Hamiota, MB on December 17, 2013. Betty was born in Trenton, Michigan and moved to Hamiota, Manitoba to marry her loving husband Bill Rutherford. They had four children: Kevin (Yuli), Wendy (Barry), Jennifer and Katie (Todd). Betty was also mother to so many others including Connie, Cynthia and Bev. She was a wonderful grandmother to many grandchildren: Derrick, Darryl, Aaron, Jeremy, Jared, Nathan, Zachery, Angela, Max, Gabriel, Ravi, Taryn, Courtney, Chelsea, and Darrian. Also left to mourn is her brother Ted (Sherry). This incredible woman had a very full life beginning with her secretarial and medical transcriptionist jobs. She worked at Henry Ford hospital until her move to Manitoba in 1981. She and Bill farmed and ran a family home daycare until her retirement because of ill health. Betty was a very involved community member for many years. She taught 4-H, babysitting classes, Girl Guides, sat on the Child and Family Services board and various church committees. Everyone that knew our “angel on earth” would tell you about how big a heart she possessed. Mom was known for helping everyone around her in any way possible. She had a tremendous fondness for young children and each one that she met was touched by her special gifts. There really wasn’t much that was more important to Mom than spending time with her family. We were all so blessed to have had her in our lives! A service to celebrate Betty’s life was held on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Hamiota Community Centre with Pastor Jason Hodson officiating and interment followed in the Hamiota Cemetery. A time of fellowship was held at the community centre. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to Child and Family Services of Western Manitoba at 800 McTavish Avenue, Brandon, MB, R7A 7L4 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba at #3-824-18th Street, R7A 5B7. Campbell Funeral Home, Hamiota, were in care of arrangements. (866) 620-2744
