McFARLANE: Gordon Arthur McFarlane of Brandon and formerly of Rivers, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, January 23, 2014. Born at Pettapiece, Manitoba on January 21, 1921, Gordon was raised on the farm where he helped his father and mother with farm chores and harvest. Gordon took grade 1 through 10 at Medina School prior to spending one year at Mechanics School in Winnipeg. Upon graduation, Gordon worked at the Rivers Airport doing carpentry work until he started working for CPR in Brandon as a switchman in 1941 and worked until 1953 when he purchased the Bob Mills Farm and started grain farming fulltime. During his years working the railway, Gordon belonged to the Brotherhood of Railway Employees, the Masonic Lodge in Rivers and he was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Rapid City. He was also a member of the school board until consolidation and then with the Rolling River consolidated board after that. Gordon was a devoted member of the Church of Christ for most of his life. He enjoyed being a snowbird in the winter months travelling to Florida and Arizona. During the time he owned a mobile home, Gordon enjoyed spending the summer months camping at Clear Lake. Gordon will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jean of 62 years, his son Lawrence with daughters Deanna Rae Hemond (Marc), Amber Brie Seniuk (Kurtis), Catherine, Pamela Kalyniak (Larry) with son Jeffrey. He was predeceased by his parents Andrew Lawrence McFarlane and Caroline Sophia McFarlane, brother Stuart Andrew McFarlane and wife Florence McFarlane, brother-in-law Robert Paton and wife Margery Paton, father-in-law George Paton and wife Kate Paton. The Funeral Service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Saturday, February 1, 2014 (TODAY) at 2:00 pm. Mr. Charles Muller will officiate. Pallbearers will be George Froese, Walter Froese, Grant Gill, Allan Macdonald, Howard Spearin and Richard Hornibrook. All attending the ceremony are considered honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Gordon to a charity of choice.
