McTAVISH:Gwendoline McTavish (Nee McCallum) Nov. 19, 1918 – Jan. 23, 2014 Gwen passed away peacefully on January 23, 2014 at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon after a brief hospital stay. Gwen is survived by her sons Bill (Donna), Terry (Patti), her daughters Verna (Bob) Cuddington and Janet (George) Inman and her daughter–in–law Jo Ann McTavish. Gwen was affectionately known as Nan to her twelve grandchildren; Scott, Brad, Todd, Leah, Dana, Paula, Darcy, Jason, Tara, Tyler, Trent and Trevor. Twenty-seven great grandchildren loved and adored Nan. Gwen was predeceased by her husband Peter, son Bruce, and parents Duncan and Ellen McCallum. She was also predeceased by her 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Gwen was born near Forrest on the McCallum farm, on November 19, 1918. From 1924 – 1936 she attended schools in Brandon and Rivers districts, completing high school in Cardale. On June 17, 1939 Gwen married the love of her life, Peter McTavish in Cardale, Manitoba. They lived on the farm near Cardale until 1979 when Peter semi-retired from farming and they moved to Brandon. During their farm life Gwen raised 5 children and took an active role in the community. Gwen made sure her children were involved in sports, 4-H, music lessons and church. Pete and Gwen were avid fans and cheerleaders for all the hockey, baseball, and curling games played by their five children and 12 grandchildren. Nan continued to enjoy all of the sporting activities of her grandchildren as well as the great grandchildren up until the time of her death. Gwen’s personal interests were the Rebecca Lodge, United Church Women, Women’s Institute, and The United Church, sewing, gardening, and curling. Gwen was a 60 year member of the Rebecca Lodge, continuing to attend lodge meetings and activities until 2013. Gwen was a life time member of the WI, UCW, and the United Church. Until moving to Brandon, Gwen was very active in the Cardale Curling Club. The family thanks the Doctors, nurses, and staff of the Brandon Regional Health Centre, and the Assiniboine Centre. The family also thanks their many friends for their kindness and sympathy as well as gifts of food, flowers and donations to Gwen’s charities. A celebration of Gwen’s life was held on January 30, 2014 at Cardale United Church. Following the service Gwen was interred at Marney Cemetery beside Pete and her son Bruce.Messages of condolence and/or photos can be shared at www.campbellfuneralhome.ca.
